That's the key for sure. Can't wait to see all of them run once the total package is there. Let's hope it doesn't require too much more tweaking.

Oh and BTW, I'm saving up for a Land Shark and will blow you all away when I run in the high 7's or low 8's.

Isn't it cute?!!!

You still had 1.5 gallons of fuel left, but in that part of the country 20 more miles wouldn't have made any difference.

I removed my diff today and I'm back on the road with a loaner factory diff from RMCR. I have to be nice to it, I promised them I wouldn't race with the loaner diff and half shafts. They came off the LSX427 build that they had at C5FestII. I am sending my DSS axles back to get the free replacements for the upgraded 1400hp axles and my Lingenfelter AAM 3.91 gears won't get here for a couple of weeks. But at least I'm back on the road.

Here's some pics of my destroyed Richmond 3.73's, thankfully the case is in good shape. Had to poke my finger in the drain hole to push the teeth out of the way just to drain it.

That makes for a rough sounding ride, Glad you got your car back on the road in the meantime...

I have the big axles and the stock diff, so I'm on borrowed time as well...I figure when I tear them up, I'll go for the entire DSS kit, pumpkin, axles and drive shaft...

Just got off the phone with Jay at Len Lyall. The gauges just had a bad ground, easy fix. The loud knocking, they ordered new valves per the TSB. Should be back up and running in time for next weeks test and tune.

A few of us were there last year. I imagine it would be the same this year. I'll probably go.

So the ? Gears ? failed, not the diff? I did not expect that! Did Richmond have anything to say about this, and are you just going to swap the new LF gears back into your factory diff or are you gonna go for a major diff upgrade? Just curious... I've only seen gears fail like that when pinion angles were way the F... off, or the pinion bearing failed. Wow!! Nice pics!!

Thanks,
Rob

the gears fail in 5th gens all the time, even stock gears, the pinion is just way to small to handle 600 plus hp, the aluminum case isnt helping anything either. it also has alot to do with the Richmond gears, I got 200 miles out of my first set

Yes, just the gears failed. Pinion bearings are fine, hardly even a mark on the inside of the case, amazingly. The gears are just plain demolished.
I'm going to just go with the Lingenfelter 3.91 gears made by AAM. The same company that makes our stock diffs and all the Chrysler and GM diffs. They told Lingenfelter that they should handle 750+ hp in the Lingenfelter builds. So we will see. At least Lingenfelter will stand behind them if they break.
It's amazing that my stock gears have handled over 150 launches, without breaking, but the Richmond gears broke on just their 4th launch.

Brian, the Richmond 4.10's that you have are breaking for alot of people, but they claim that their 4.11's will hold up. They have one tooth less on the ring gear so the teeth are a little thicker. If they won't give me my money back, I'll try to get some 4.11's for replacements for you to try out.
Brian, does the installation kit include new axle bearings or just the pinion bearings?

Do you have any suspension work done on your Camaro?

Pfadt sways, BMR trailing and toe arms, Pfadt engine mounts and diff bushings. I don't get any wheel hop whatsoever even if I spin off the line. But on that launch there was no spin at all with the 18" rims and 305 Mickey Thompson's. It just hooked and broke. Nearly had the front off the ground.

I wanted my money back for the gears and install kit, aprox. $900.
But they pretty much said that was out of the question. If anything they might give me a new set of gears, in which case I'd get the 4.11's. I won't ever put them in my car, but I could sell them to someone that is naturally aspirated and they would work great for that. Kirky, you want first dibs on them?? You'll be guaranteed to beat Mike and Randy then.

I think that the reason is that it probably only costs them $400 for a set of gears, where the refund would be double that. They might not even give me any new gears, I have to send them my old ones before they make a decision.

That's one of the biggest reasons I am going with the Lingenfelter AAM gears, at least I know that they will stand behind them if they break.
