That loose front plate on the dashboard will become a giant flying razor blade during an accident.

I live in nebraska, i need a front plate as well, for awhile i built a plate that attaches inside the lower grill frame so i dont have to drill into the bumper, but then i got my new grill and decided imma put it in side my car through the windshield, so far i havnt had any trouble but there are some picky police out there.

If you're going to put it on the dash/windshield, then go to the hobby shop and pick up 4 small suction cups to prevent the razor blade issue.
It's not 100% safe, but it is much safer than leaving the plate loose, or just jammed into the crease between the dash and windshield.

I had no issue drilling four holes in the front bumper for the rivets that hold the plate holder on. There are worse things in life that I can worry about.

This is the third new car we have bought over the past seven years and everytime I have tried to get away with it in the Fort Worth area, I eventually got pulled over for no front plate. Never got a ticket though, just a warning. So before I got used to not having a plate (until caught) I installed it right away.

Be an Outlaw....

Camaros come with a black plastic front license plate bracket. The front bumper fascia must be drilled to mount it & that would be a crime. Some guys go after market or jury rig plate to grill with wire ties or other fasteners. I opted not to install a front plate & I've been an outlaw now for 13,500 miles without a ticket. Keeping my fingers crossed.

In the Austin area Williamson County has a reputation. About a month or two ago they had a checkpoint of sorts near the Dell Round Rock campus and pulled people over for registration, front plate, etc....

Also. I have had about 5 coworkers recently mention they were pulled over for no front plate.

So it all depends were you live and what chances you want to take. I have mine zip tied on the front, but it's not too bad since I have custom plates

It only took less than 3 months since taking ownership of my Camaro, when I got stopped for speeding and also got cited for not having my front license plate on. So, not long after that, I went ahead and put the front plate on. Besides, if you have vanity plates like me, why not show them off!

You'll need to go back to the parts counter at your nearest dealership and get a plastic license plate mount - it should run about $15. Then you can use rivets, screws, or preferably tie wraps to mount it. Search for front plate mount and you'll find tons of threads showing how others have mounted the front plate w/o putting holes in the bumper cover.

As long as it is displayed you're fine. Mine in on the floor against the bottom of the console. Hate having it on the dash, only put it up "when needed".

They recently had a clarification here in Texas. If the plate is not on the front of the car then they can ticket you. It doesn't mean they will though.

Another issue is halo lighting. Went just over a year with green halos and one sheriff deputy finally said something about them. All officers till then always gave thumbs up or smiled.

I have a copy of the state law laminated in the glove box now in case I see him again.

I had my front plate on the windshield for the first 2-3 months I owned my car. My buddy got a citation for his plate in the windshield, so I put mine on by attaching it to the lower grill with toggle bolts. Theres a DIY on here somewhere, which is where I got the instructions on how to mount it. I take it on and off every once in a while and it doesnt take long.
