I keep noticing in all these "concept" sketches that the roof line seems low, and the side windows are narrow like the Camaro.

OH THE HORROR!!!! IT WILL HAVE BLINDSPOTS AND BE UNDRIVEABLE!!!!!!!!!!!

I could easily live with either of these concepts... I have heard that the GR-1's chassis could find its way to the Mustang in 2014. It would be the first global sports car chassis being shared with the Ford GT, Ford Cobra, GR-1 and the Mustang III.
If it looks like that I might switch back over to the Mustang side!

But the Camaro will still probably look better so we shall see.

keep in mind this aren't official, who knows what the new mustang will look
like. the only thing we know is that its going to be smaller, lighter and won't have the retro theme, it also won't share the kinetic designing.

I just wonder how long Ford, Chevy and Mopar will be able to keep Mustang, Camaro and Challenger equipped with high HP V8s with increased MPG standards and skyrocketing fuel prices.

Ford will be fine as long as they continue to sell large quantities of small fuel efficient cars to keep their average production mpg where it needs to be. Gas prices should go back down to two bucks a gallon just like they did 2 years ago after it was five bucks gallon.

Both Ford and Chevrolet will be introducing the Eco engines into the pony car market again. While this may upset the purist and elitist, those options will ensure the success of the pony car market. Besides, were talking about a 3300-3400lb, 2 door sports coupe with 275-300hp, 280-310ft lbs, $24-26k MSRP and 33-35mpg highway. I would even go as far as ordering a convertible with those numbers...

Our cars could see a 20,000 unit a month sales increase with the offering of a Ecoboost/Ecotech engine. The V8's would still go on to sell 2000-5000 a month just as they do now. I wouldn't worry about the pony car market... It will be fine...

During this time and age, this is 100% correct.

I sure in hell wouldn't count on that, my guess fuel prices will fall .25 cents or so for the short term then slowly rise back up to $4.00 for the norm. I say bring back the Grand National turbo 6, but this time make it about 550 hp...

The fastback concept (There will very likely be a fastback Mustang III) will have poor visibility. The current Mustang's visibility isn't that great anyway. I expect the Mustang to keep its current roofline at or around the current 55-56 inches. The rear quarter window will be drawn up flush with the door's window which will aid the visibility issue somewhat. There is also going to be mandatory backup cameras installed too because it will be a mandatory government regulation by then. Physical dimensions will not be altered too far from the current Mustang and the announcement that the Mustang will be Ford's Car of Tomorrow in NASCAR basically confirms that (and J. Mays recently stated that the car will only be slightly smaller than the current Mustang). I have heard from my super secret sources that Ford intends to reduce the curb weight in the Mustang by 200+ pounds across the line-up. That means that a 3300lb Ecoboost Mustang is very possible and a 550hp, 3600lb SVT Mustang is in the works (could be lighter if you take into consideration the new engine/transmission... maybe 3550lbs). If the pony car market follows these parameters, the US sports coupe market will dominate the foreign competition in almost every aspect...

The more I talk about the new Mustang the more pumped I get....

Edit: Looking at the current V6 manual that weighs in at 3401lbs and seeing that the 2005 V6 manual weighed 3350lbs, It is very possible that the 2014 Ecoboost 2.0 SVO Mustang could weigh less than 3300lbs. The Ecoboost 2.0 Inline DOHC turbo weighs about 60lbs less (275lbs ready to run, 350lbs turbo'd *estimated) than the base V6 and I can see a retro fitted Getrag MT82 being paired with the 2.0 as well (reduce cost). I have to double check the engine weights for myself but I am hearing that the Turbo 2.0 weighs 60lbs less than the 3.7 Duratec. That means that a 3150lb SVO Mustang could be possible... fingers crossed...

Edit #2: Disregard the 3150 curb weight, It was the old 4.0 liter V6 that was so much heavier than the Ecoboost 2.0 not the current 3.7 Duratec. Still though, there is potential for a 3200 pound SVO Mustang and maybe some change... Sorry about that...

Idk about you guys but I cant wait for each next gen car. I strongly prefer the V6 models because overall Im more of a looks and uniqueness guy. Id rather turbo my V6 and have a really unique car then a typical V8 with mods.

When I got my LT a year ago the V6 Mustang was really just too pathetic to consider. Had I been buying now I would have been much more torn. Though the looks of the Camaro trump the Stang IMO the V6 Stang is hands down the better performer.

The competition will be fierce for sure, the Camaros strong return means the Stang will have to come out playing hard. I honestly dont know which one I will chose...

I'm wondering how the current 6s will turn out in the long run as far as longevity with boost. The 4.0l in the last v6 mustang was a dog, but toss some boost at it and it could go. IIRC there were a few guys running 10s on stock longblocks with bolt on turbo kits.

There should be very potent V6 options offered in the next generation pony cars. There are the naturally aspirated V6's from both camps which in themselves are very efficient and produce adequate levels of horsepower and torque. There are bound to be turbo or twin turbo variants of the current engines or perhaps other turbo ready engines available. I'm not 100% sure of what GM has to offer in the turbo V6 department but I seem to remember the 425hp Jay Leno Twin Turbo 3.6 had no problem making the power. It used a pair of Turbonetics T-3 turbochargers and contrary to what people might think, that Jay Leno Camaro was 100% built by GM and NOT Jay Leno. As always, Ford has a middle weight contender that will give the TT 3.6 a run for its money codenamed "Twinforce" prior to the "Ecoboost" name plate. Since all these engine offerings are global (or will be anyway) it very well may be an engine option extravaganza come the next generation because the cost of engine R&D and production will be mitigated by entire fleet sales.
