also, just to state - i never said anything about a track - but a drag strip.
There is a really cool show from the UK called Top Gear. You should watch their review of the GT500 sometime. The live axle suspension kills it's chances on the track. Apparently Ford has tamed this some with the new Boss 302 but there is no way your GT500 will stand up to a ZL1 with magnetic ride control in the corners.

how is your STOCK GT500 heat exchanger working?
how is your STOCK GT500 suspension wheel hopping?
how is your STOCK GT500 Goodyear's hooking?

Obviously the OP is looking for gratification in the reason he purchased a 2010 GT500
well guess what you have no aluminum block, or svtpp suspension package or the goodyear tires, or upgraded heat exchanger, im pretty sure the zl1 will decimate your STOCK cobra around the track and in the straights. 2010 mustang was the wrong choice bro.

What do you mean by "aftermarket" parts? Are you characterizing, for example, the carbon fiber hood insert, the ZL1 wheels, the magnetic ride suspension, the dual mode exhaust, and the steering wheel, as "aftermarket" parts?

Regardless of whether a part on the ZL1 is considered by some to be "aftermarket," what's important to me is that all of the parts will have been validated by Chevrolet during hundreds of thousands of miles of vehicle operation.

Agreed. My point to the Mustang guy was nothing is exclusive to the ZL1, lots of current Camaro owners have what's being installed onto ZL1 case and point, the Hurst shifter, the Eatons 1.9L supercharger, Brembo brakes, dual disk clutch probably a RAM clutch and I wouldn't be surprised if the end-links and sway bars were Phadt.
So, I was trying to "communicate" that if he wanted to race Camaros' no need to wait for the ZL1, there are numerous 2010 models out there with equal or better performance than the ZL1.

I'm with you on this one. I like the Idea of not needing to ruin my warranty or worrying about blowing up my car from doing something to it that it wasn't designed to do. That's why I'm buy a ZL1. I like the idea of factory power over modded. It's sort of like a girl that has natural beauty over one the has a boob job, butt lift and botox. Sure she can look nice but she's sort of tarnished for me knowing that she has been modded.

Please lets keep this civil, I really don't want this closed. I for one am excited to see the GT500 guys on here. If we can understand that we all love our cars and I am not going to stop loving on my ZL1 or SS or GT500 because I got beat at the drag strip or because you had a better lap time.....

You all have made valid points, and some have followed that with needless dribble. Lets just cut out the dribble and focus on the competition.

Ford and Chevy are...and we are the big benefactors of this.

To each their own.
But, trust me ZL1, Z28, Iroc Z or whatever you wanna' call it.
You'll be one of the first guys at the race shop when a 3yr. old vehicle blows by your new ZL1 with power to spare and your maxed out because of your RPM limiter, speed limiter, boost limiter, air intake (Eatons 1.9L Supercharger, while everyone else has over 2.3L) and exhaust limits (manifolds), et all.
Think of it, why do you think GM and Ford both have performance divisions? Ever heard of GMPP?
When your mods are done right you don't have to worry about your warranty or exploding your engine. Get the work done by the pros' not in your buddys' garage.
All, I can do is recommend you do your research before you dive head first into purchasing something simply for hype.
Go look on the Mustang sites, I bet you not a lot of Boss 302 happy campers. Some pony'ers are on this site looking to purchase a Camaro. LOL

Trust me, When I want to race I'll pull out the drag car and I haven't pulled out my 69 dart for quite sometime. The only way I'll get my doors blown off by a 3yr old car is if I'm at the drags which will only be for fun in the ZL1 anyways. And I can tell you it wouldn't mean much to me to get beat by any model of modded. I would be more interested in lining up against a stock GT500 since this is mainly what GM is gunning for. I'm not interested in playing the mod game. I spent many years when I was younger waisting money on modding a street cars just to drive 55mph or get into trouble. The ZL1 means more to me than just HP and I can tell you that many GT500 guys along with corvette guys feel the same way.

It will win if you're Both Stock, Im going out on a limb here but when the SS came out they made sure it was faster than the GT, There is no way Gm would make the "Ultimate Camaro" Without making sure it can beat the Gt500 Down the line, Now by how much i have no idea but i can almost guarantee it will be the better Car. But knowing ford they wount let it stay like that for long just as they did with the GT for 2011 the GT500 will be sure to have a full Revamp as soon as the ZL1 Hits the Market..... Now what id like to see is Dodge Re-Do the Challenger and go through with the Srt-10 Plan, That would make a hell of an American Muscle Car Race.

It's unfortunate you consider it wasted money when you were younger, on what you call a game.

I'd would thnk we're rather blessed to afford the ability to spend money on something we enjoy whether on the track on the road or doing something else. Wouldn't consider my enjoyment a waste especially at my age.

As for GT500's, they're beat already so won't be much of a challenge for a ZL1, besides as you said, they're already lining up to buy Camaro's. And a good tune will probably get you a another 50hp. on the ZL1 so GT500 beat for sure.

But, I'd have to say Z06 pumped up with a mega' ProCharger or Vortech, or a stock ZR1 not sure Corvette guys are lining up for a ZL1 anytime soon, the Corvettes are equiped with LS7 (na) or LS9 (FI), waste of time for a ZL1 to be chasing one of those, but sure it would be interesting and enjoyable.

Honestly, though if I had that mod'd 69 dart I'd be joy riding all day long. I've seen some of those on Pinks.

For sure that would be awesome. It's too bad the Challenger not ever mentioned anymore. I really like the Challenger but the cost / benefit was just way off base, and when I saw the SS I was sold, especially after waiting 3yrs. for it to come to market.
Any idea what's the specs. are for the SRT-10 plan?
