I grew up working on Chevrolet, so that was the biggest factor. I am pretty comfortable with the internal cam and pushrod setup. One thing to consider is if you are gonna modify the motor is that with extra cams the 5.0 is more expensive for top-end stuff.

Definitely not trying to start a flame war or a pissing contest on vehicles. I was just curious as to the opinions on those who tried both.

Very similar cars.... buddy has the 5.0... I have the Camaro. I like both, I love American muscle...
The Camaro will turn FAR more heads than any mustang on the road for years to come... period. The mustang look is rather tired, the camaro is still "new". I still have kids point and wave, I still catch people staring from their cars. However, on a course track, my buddy will probably just edge me because of improved handling and lighter weight of his 5.0. On a drag strip, I will take him... It all depends on what you want and what you are looking for.. just take this word of advice. Don't let the mustangs interior accent lighting pull you in... my buddy fell for it and when he realized it was an easy install for the camaro and saw the attention mine gets, he seemed to question his choice. Nevertheless, his ride is sweet and gives me headaches on a track...

I have owned all 3 of the current pony cars.
2010 Camaro SS 2010 Challenger R/T 2011 Mustang GT For me, the Mustang met my needs the best. I like to head down the quarter mile. It was going to cost me 5x as much on the Camaro as the Mustang to be able to reliably go out an run 11's in any weather. I will be knocking some 10's down late this year, early next year which far exceeded my expectations on what the Mustang was capable of. The Challenger was a huge surprise. Out of the 3, it has impressed me the most. It is bigger than the others but don't let that deter from it's performance and everyday driveability. Very good car and shouldn't be overlooked IMO. The Camaro is a good car as well. If you are more into show than go it is probably the car for you. It takes tearing into the motor or putting on a power adder to to do what I am/was able to do with the Mustang. It also has the least amount of trunk space and headroom. If you are tall, probably not a good choice especially with the sunroof. As others have said, go give each one of them a try and decide what you like the best and will meet your goals. |

Visibility is fine when you are driving. But backing up is where the problem is from my experience. It's nothing that you can't adjust to. IMO, the mustang is the better performing car but the Camaro is just a much sexier car.

I think the biggest thing I am looking for is that "oomph" factor. When I bought my '06 Mustang GT, I absolutely LOVED the sound it made on start up and while driving. I also loved the looks it drew when driving around. It will be my daily driver, and I do not race. I also doubt I will be doing any mods to it at this stage of my life.
Many thanks to all the constructive input you guys have put. |

I HATE the seats in the mustangs. The head rests kill my neck.
They are both cool cars, but looks wise I would pick the Camaro. Plus I cannot get enough of the sound of a LS engine.

They're both nice. Stock vs stock the Mustang is faster. I like the interior better on the Camaro and I like the looks of the Camaro more too. It's definitely more of a head turner.

It does not bother me that in a race, the 5.0 comes in a second or whatever better. I like that both are fast. I think the look of the Camaro is what has me leaning more towards it. What about the sound? Of those who have test driven both, which sounds the best?
