PTM and Launch Control

I was reading a R&T article on the ZL1, and they had this to say:

There is no mention of Launch Control, no-lift shift or Performance Traction Management in the initial release. We’ve heard that these advanced technology features will be included in the ZL1. And if you look closely at photos of the interior a “+” and “-“ can be seen on the sport and tour buttons located next to the traction control, which is oh-so similar to how PTM is adjusted in the Corvette ZR1. As this will be the second use of the PTM technology, we expect it to also include an adjustable launch control. Something that was slated for the ZR1, but hasn’t materialized yet.

Probably half guess, part speculation and a little bit of hope........

It better. my cobalt has no-lift-shift and launch control.
what your seeing the +/- beside the traction control is the suspesion damneing for the MRS, for either agressive or tour mode.

I'm sure it will. Honestly - the more I think about it, the more technology I'm surprised to see on ZL1, and not on 'Vette. Shoot - 'Vette doesn't have hood extractors, and they've had that on the race cars for a LONG time. Maybe there's not enough room because of the packaging, but the hood, next generation MR and EPS are reasons enough for me to believe you're right and we'll see these included in the final specs'. It'd be silly not to add them.

No lift shift is really only on cobalts to keep the turbo spooled up between shifts, I don't know how much it would really benefit a N/W or supercharged car, or you'd think they would have added it to the SS Camaro at launch.

That is not too much to ask for a ~$50K car, is it?

I'm reviving this thread because the question still hasn't been answered. Does anyone have any further info on the PTM & Launch control?

(BTW, Just don't go plaid, that would be ludicrous.)

Honestly I doubt it will be in ZL1.

I've had a theory that some folks had shut it down, but my bet is that the next more powerful version of Camaro will be Z28 with LS9 and PTM & launch control, running in $60K. Almost half the price of a ZR1. So, PTM will be in Z28 and not ZL1. Just my persoal opinion.

ZL1 (G1) was 427, ZL1 (G4) competes with GT500

Z28 (G1) was 302, Z28 (G5) would likely compete with Boss 302

What part of that makes you think LS9?

I'm not thinking FI for Z28 - but have nothing to back it up. It's just a gut feeling.

It'll be interesting to see...There were pictures taken "accidentally" by a publication showing PTM in the show car...and I can't believe Launch Control (featured on the SS) would be omitted from the more powerful and presumably harder-to-launch ZL1...

Agreed, why would they omit it from the Zl1 if it comes on the SS? In fact, it helps make the car idiot proof. Inexperienced drivers without it will total them because they will easily lose control. It gives them driver IQ by default. I remember after I bought my '02 35th SS Anniversary Camaro. It has no traction control, no save your butt electronics..no "parachute". I was looking around on ebay and I noticed there were many wrecked SS Camaros' with very low mileage. Those end of the line LS1 4th generation SS Camaros were a handful and tricky. It was easy to understand why that was. I almost lost it a few times in mine under certain conditions. Now almost 600 factory HP in a ZL1? Holy tire smoke Batman....!!! I recommend to the uninitiated not to go tooling around town at WOT without having it on unless you know how to save it under all conditions. These 5th generations are no toys, and the ZL1 will put a smile on the face of even the most experienced driver, with the controls off of course..heh heh. I can't wait....!

Almost without exception, in a turn when you hit even a small bump with the rear wheels in a 4th gen, it was almost impossible to control the rear end from sliding out. If you didn't get it back in within a 1/2 second or so, it was gone. I remember the first time it happened to me. I just about had to change my pants!

Ahhh, the joys of a live rear axle.
