That's the beauty of Camaro ownership - you can personalize it anyway you want - you start out with a beautiful canvas!
This is a little more than a canvas Scott!

As a history buff, when ever I go to a car show to check out the classics, it's the original/ stock machines that get my attention. I always get a kick outta seeing what was hot back in the day, trying to figure out why the manufacturers made the decisions they did, options they offered, and what true technology "advances" were getting the rage. Then putting 'em up against the then competition. Interesting stuff!

Some of it comes from the 30+ years of classic car stories I get from my dad, talking about the then cool new machines rolling out, the styles that made them popular, the wild paint colors, and the power comin out of 'em.

Because of those stories... if you roll into a show with an early second gen, you better be ready for a Google-free knowledge battle! And kudos to you if I can learn something from you!!

So with my early 2010, I want to get it to a car show in 20yrs, unmodified (yes I kept the original leather), and let the stories pour out from the kinda people that we chat with here everyday. Picture yourself in 20-25 years, attending a classics show, and seeing an all original 5th gen amongst the greats. What stories will you share?

Some of my best moments behind the wheel of an automobile, some of the stories that I'll be sharing in 20 something years, my favorite all time memories, will definitely be about the times with my 2010, and the comaraderie amongst the Camaro5 crew!

Frankly, except for the ZL-1 if you're looking for "spectacular" performance, you've got the wrong car. Unless you want a smart car, you're going to find that nearly EVERYTHING has gotten a lot heavier than what members of its class of car weighted a couple decades ago. You'll notice that even the new Mustang GT with comparable power and significant weight savings only slightly edged out the Camaro SS.

Comparing the new Camaro to a ten year old Corvette and saying that their performance being equal means the Camaro isn't good enough is pretty silly in my opinion. Using the Corvette of any age as the "gold standard", personally I think it's pretty awesome that automotive technology has advanced enough that the much heavier new Camaro SS can be compared equally to a ten year old Corvette - or that a twenty year old Corvette would have a tough time keeping up with the new Camaro V6, even! That's quite an accomplishment, and for the price and segment of the market this is aimed at, it IS very impressive. You can still get more spectacular performance, but as has always been the case, that costs you more.

And for GM to come out with a monster like the ZL-1 less than three years into a new version of the Camaro after an eight MY hiatus, in the middle of the weakest economy in a generation and a push towards "green" cars as well as GM's own bankruptcy, is pretty remarkable. That interval sounds reasonable enough to me - and I think anyone who thinks otherwise ought to practice a thing called "patience" and shy away from the current "instant gratification" trend as much as possible.

no one is ever satisfied are they? Op, I read through the first page and couldn't read anymore but I felt compelled to give you a real world opinion. First, how much more power do you want? How high do you want your insurance to be also? How many "normal" people are going to buy this car? Doing what you want would drive the price up....possibly high enough that sales would falter....then guess what happens....they kill the Camaro. Do you want that to happen again? I know I don't. From what I understand the factory axles hold up fine even if you add some power. And as said a few times before, they are about to offer what you are looking for. You want it now you say? Call chevy and see if they could sell you one today. I'm sure they could accommodate you.
And btw:

No kidding....you'd think I insulted someone's mama.....or puppies or something.

It's funny in a way....yet sad at the same time. I don't know how many of these people were actually alive during the 80s but the Mustang started trouncing the Camaro from a performance standpoint in 1982 and never looked back. The 4th Gens started reclaiming some of the advantage but too little too late.

The Mustang has historically been faster and had better parts. I'd hate to see that happen again.

What a jerk I am....I must not have any teeth.

Uh Oh....I said Mustang....this is really gonna bring the tough guys out.

Just a fellow South Carolinian. I saw a green SS the other day here in Seneca and thought it might be you. A small chance but I thought I would ask.

Well, the Mustang has always had more aftermarket stuff available 'cause everyone and their Chihuahua had one It's a big market and the aftermarket would be stupid not to have stuff for 'em.

But your original post sounded like you wanted the Camaro to come off the line not needing any aftermarket modding done to it at all and be exactly like you wanted it. That just seemed...arrogant...is all. Maybe I mis-read what you were saying?

im so sorry to say this, but GM designed the Camaro, not YOU. And then as soon as GM makes this dream camaro of yours another post will come up saying I want the camaro like this and like that listen to me GM!!!! And this Camaro you are describing is coming out its called the ZL1. Just like Jeep came out with the Rubicon years after the Wrangler, it takes time for them to get feedback and produce it into a final product. Wahhhhhh mommy i want it now. Go suck a tit.
