ZL1 short throw shifter
For those that have been lucky enough to sit in the ZL1 or even drive it, how did the short throw feel?
As short as aftermarket short throw shifters? Does it "click" into gear? anyone? Bueller? |

Have they even allowed anyone outside of the press to sit in it?
I'm sure that will be something I'll be looking into. The way the manufacturers have to contend with NVH, I can get over a little tranny noise as long as the throws are better. The two billet shifters I had on my '95 Z28 were a little noisy, but I could deal with it.

One of my first mods will be a MGW shifter with a black ZL1 ball when they become available. While the stock shifter may be nice, I've heard nothing but good things about the MGW.
I look forward to the day I can compare them both

I like the look of the old school Hurst with the rectangular stick, especially with a T handle (since I can't pull off traction bars, this will be my nod to the old school Hot Rods!)

Feels just like a stock SS. But that can change at any time.

If it now feels like a stock SS
, I hope it does change. Most (if not all) of the stock SS shifters I've seen feel sloppy and loose. The factory Hursts, on the other hand, feel tight and precise. I would think (and hope) that the "ultimate" Camaro would have an appropriate shifter. I don't think the stock SS shifter is up to the task.

Milk, did it feel like a stock shifter or the optional factory Hurst shifter?

I haven't felt the factory hurst. Or any short shifter. So it might actually be a shorter throw, I just didn't pay much attention. I can tell you it did feel very smooth compared to my SS. So.... ![]() Sorry, I wish I was paying more attention, but I was a bit in awe at the moment. |

I'm hoping that they will ONLY be available with the factory Hurst.

Who knows if the show car even has the same shifter in it that will be in a production ZL1?! Show cars aren't always mechanically representative of what ends up on the showroom floor. Just sayin'!

![]() I've had a Hammer Head B&M handle on my '95 and just got one for my 4Runner and love that thing. It's not so nice in the +100* summers here, though...

It would've been hard to do with the cameras rolling and GM people watching from a distance. Plus the 20mph speed limit would've made it hard to get it home. |
