Until I can see for myself, I'm pessimistic about that. I've only had experience with a manual mode on an automatic transmission on my mom's Mazda3, and that was not really good at all. I can just about shift a real manual just as fast, if not faster, and I'm just learning how to drive a stick shift. The Camaro's would have to be substantially faster to make me consider it. I'm not saying it can't, but it will have to shift significantly faster than the Mazda's to impress me.

Most Automatics are faster when the computer does the shifting. The paddle shifters (for most of today's automatics) are to add excitement and give the driver more control.
But at the drag strip, letting the computer do the shifting will most likely prove to be faster.
And for playing around on the street, the paddle shifters will add some excitement.

4:10's and a decent track will help this car TREMENDOUSLY! It took a bit to get used to it, but my 95 Z picked up a few tenths changing to 4:10's....and that was without drag radials.

Anyone expecting it to be like an DCT automated manual with a shift time of under 100 ms will be disappointed. I expect it to essentially be like the D-3-2 automatics that debuted ages ago. But instead of moving the shifter up through the gears, you hit the paddle shifters. Now, GM might have done a bit of tuning to make the shifts a bit quicker, but it will not be significanytly different from a regular automatic.

The purpose of the tap-shift is not to make shifts faster, its to give you control of an automatic transmission.

comparing the manual mode on a mazda3 (like the guy who was comparing his altima) to the new camaro is like comparing apples to a really bad ass car with 400hp.

im sure you can powershift a manual faster than what most older autos can shift, but i can bet my A4 can shift faster than you. this new A6 isnt the slushbox of old.

I of course expect the automatic to shift faster in automatic mode, especially in a drag race situation. Unfortunately, when using manual mode in the Mazda on a winding canyon road to give myself that extra control the delay between flicking the shifter and the actual shift meant that the shift came as I was exiting the curve even though I initiated the downshift on the way into it. That kind of delay just doesn't work. The Altima-Mazda-Camaro shift time comparison works because they're all entirely traditional automatics with a manual mode coded in.

I'd love to see DCT like times, but we know that's just not going to happen. If they can at least minimize the gap between shift times and response in automatic and manual modes, I'll consider it.

Well .. look at what the competition is running these days ... honestly .. I can't believe it won't .... If it can't, it wouldn't even run w/ a 2003/2004 Cobra stock for stock ....

I know people think .. come on .. what do you want .. 109 or so is fast and I do agree .. I'm just saying .. with other cars out there and what they can run with how much they weigh, I will be dissapointed if it isn't at 111mph ..

Pinks would be cool, doubt I would be able to with my schedules. Who knows though, could get lucky and be free on that day. I always thought about doing that, definately all-out and not just pinks though lol.
