Cam Shopping, Upgrade Advice.

Hey Guys new to the forum lots of good information here.

I'm looking to do a cam sometime soon, not looking to supercharge its not really about the speed, more about the sound for me. Just want people to when i drive away.

Mods I've done so far.

  • Airraid CAI
  • Solo High Flow Cats
  • Corsa Cat-Back Exhaust

A few questions for you guys.

  • Do I need to get LT's for a cam?
  • Anybody running any of the Jannetty Cam Packages? Was looking at this cam. I'm not too far from Jannetty so I wouldn't mind making the trip, as I've read through the forums nothing but good things from them.
  • Can you guys recommend any other cam's?
  • Any other upgrades you guys would think needed to be done before/after the cam to maintain driveability, don't want it to blow up after voiding my warranty lol.

Maybe someone from Jannetty could chime in, I know you guys have tuners but I assume you have a dyno and I'd like a custom tune. Can I get a price on that?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The one you should keep in mind is the lobe center a 112 or 114 lobe is best for avstreet car also look at the power band you don't want your power to come in at 4000 when you never rev that high unless your wot. I typically prefer comp cams as most companies use there blanks for there own. It wouldn't be a bad idea to go over and see Ted for the cam upgrade they are great at making power. But make sure on the way you stop by me for some suspension upgrades cause after a cam package you are deff gonna need it

your going to need long tube headers. you are not going to need suspension mods. idk what camaro4mybday is thinking lol. i have zero traction problem with my cammed camaro making 450WHP. maybe from a dig i might get a little problems. but no way in hell you are deff gonna need it.

i am running a jennetty cam. i love it. but there are a lot of other cams you can go with. you will learn it might be a hard choice. but one of the things to look for is getting a good sounding cam. there are cammed camaros on the fourm here, but some just do not have enough lope in the cam.

good luck.

Can you elaborate on why you'd need LT's? I just put the high flow cats on now I'm kinda mad if that is the case.

Which cam are you running mikeSS, any vids?

Thanks.

it is VERY important to have headers with cams. high flow cats will not do any good. trust me. there is a guy here that did that and the next day he bought headers after seeing how bad his gains were. people were telling him do not do it. even ted at jennttey racing was telling him not to do it. i would link you the thread but i cant find it.

i have the http://jreperformanceparts.com/jre-4...m-package.html CAM.

i also have corsa exhaust. so your car will sound like this with this cam and headers.

found them. read this.

"You need the Long Tube Headers to Properly Scavenge the Spent Exhaust gases from the Chamber and Keep Exhaust gases from backing up in to the intake manifold during Overlap.

As much fun as this sounds like, it is a BAD IDEA.

Do the Headers Now or you will be tuning Twice, and Tuning Cost Money."

Thanks a bunch man for the links, your car sounds awesome! Really like the sound.

I guess i'll have to think about it then I was hoping to get away with it but oh well. Maybe I'll drive the car a little longer before voiding my warranty. Shame too they threw in the extended one haha

@ mikes there is more to life than just going straight boyhood of you would greatly improve your cars 10fold with a little suspension upgrades. It's very narrow minded of people to upgrade there engines with out the rest of the car.

@ vanquisher there is nothing that says you need long tubes. Would they help absolutely . If shorties work for you get them they are a step up from the factory manifolds. The factory manifolds are decent but not great. You will see the most gains from long tubes. Comp cams has a great program called cam quest 6 it will give you a good guesstimate of what a cam would do with different bolt ons and what additions they suggest. I'm not saying you need to go with comp cams but it is a good tool to shop with.

I can vouch for both Mike and Ted. I also have this cam package and can tell you that its sound and performance gets tons of respect from both classic and modern muscle folks. The only problem is, every time im at a stop light the peoe next to me are always asking me to rev it up! You cant miss with this kit but, you will need headers.
