The only shared body panel is the roof and everything is different inside. I'd call that a pretty substantial update. Heck I think Ford did more on this mid model update then Honda did with their new 9th gen civic and most do on their mid model update.

They should have left the rear end of the car pre-2010 design

Looks are only an opinion. The OP should be able to determined that by himself. I think what he was asking is which is truly the better car ,which in many respects is also nothing more than an opinion too. I think both cars are good cars and it really comes down to what type of person you are. Are you looking for luxury car ride or do you want a car that is more nimble with more road feel.

In my opinion the general look of the car has not changed especially the profile (side) view of it. Clearly the 2012 is a much better looking car then the 2005 but the basic body design is very similar in my opinion. I just don't care for the side of the car, I think it is very plain. For the record I am not a Mustang hater, I have owned 3 of them and will buy any brand of car if it fits my needs and wants.

I'm a Ford and therefore Mustang guy, who loves Camaros. I say drive both, and go with your gut. Great cars - both of them - and the fact that they both exist makes everyday driving more fun. I love my Mustang, but I get a thrill every time I see a Camaro. Just don't tell the guys over at the Mustang forums. ;-)

some of you just got your first car or Camaro based on jumping on the Transformers bandwagon and now you are a "car enthusiasts" who hates other makes/models???? Camaro vs Mustang...each has its +s and -s. Own both and enjoy and stop hatin.

Talking

Camaro hands down. They just look mean as heck with a smiling grill. I loved the Camaro when I saw the first prototype I knew I had to own the car. Two little ego boosters for me:

1. I am on the freeway in rush hour traffic and this old bright yellow BEEMER with a young Asian kid driving (yes the BMW was totally winged and lowered! UGH!) pulls along side me after weaving through traffic to catch me. I look to my right and all of a sudden he is ear to ear smiles and gives a double thumbs up. I think he was steering with his knees in order to accomplish this feat.

2. This past Sunday I go to McDonalds and park my Camaro away from the crowds. Three teen boys on skateboards come cruising along and see my car and say "Dude that is a sweet car." One looks at the other and says "Yeah it is the new Camaro that thing is sick." Another kid says "It is so much cooler than a Mustang."

I go into McDonalds worried about my car with these teens but they come in. When I walk over to the coke machine to top off they are standing there hovering and one of the guys talks to his friends and says "Get the heck out of the way, that is the cool guy with the Camaro."

They were sincere, obviously had impeccably good taste and recognized a cool dude for sure! It is amazing how uncool and what a nerd I become when I drive my VW Beetle. No one ever looks at me accept other Beetles. Waaaaahhhh! Wish I could drive my Camaro every day!

+1 Each car, every model has something to offer. Even the old AMC PACER had its unique personality and the ability to let you get a sun tan or sunburn quickly under all the glass! HA HA

I've driven the 2SS/RS and it hits hard, handles okay, but is a bit redundant. If you are going to mod - Camaro, because one of my best friends has the 2SS/RS and I "check in" after his mods. The car gets much better by the dollar. The performance will be much more fun in the SS than the GT.

What was his before and after ET and dyno and money spent?

I ask because 5.0L see's HUGE gains from very few dollars spent. There are a few intake/ exhaust 5.0L's beating full bolt on and cammed LS3's on this fourm.

Totally incorrect...

I have owned each of the current 3 pony cars. The 2011+ Mustang GT is the best bang for the buck period and responds to bolt-ons best.

To run the times in a 2010+ Camaro that I have run in my Mustang requires a power adder which is another $5K plus in mods. I have about $3.5K in my current mods and that includes suspension, clutch, drive shaft, etc... My investment in power mods is ~$1,900. You tell me which one is the better investment?

For 4k in the Camaro you could have a cam installed, cai, LTs, and a tune with tires and somebody who knows how to get down the 1/4 you could see mid 11s, I think the approach to the HP is differant for the two as the 5.0 does not need the cam, but the bottom line would more than likely be the same. I myself am on the fence about whether to go full ahead with mods as I have been there done that with a older 5.0 and a Cobra and regretted it.

The problem is many choose not to mod their SS's as they are worried about warranty. In the 5.0 world I would guess most do mod. so there are a whole lot more faster 5.0s on the prey than SSs.
