Man who even cares. So much fake shit in everyday life. If it bothers u, you should call them out when you see it. Not to long ago I saw a guy downtown Chicago driving around in the new Honda accord coupe ( what I traded for the camaro btw) and as soon as I saw it I knew something was odd about it. Got up close and this guy has a BMW logo where the H should be. I snapped a pic and laughed. Pulled on the side of him and said nice Beemer with a look in my face that u knew it wasn't a BMW. Laughed a bit more and went on with my day. No way it's going to annoy me. If people want to front, let them front.
Just like someone said. Only the people who don't know or care are fooled by it. And those same people prob think it's a nice car either way. So there not gaining anything, only looking like fools every time they go get an oil change or one of us spots them.

What about those "fake" bullet holes? If you're going to have bullet holes in the side of your car they should be real!

In my opinion, yes, it's just not right. That's an awesome car, but it's not an SS. You can read the VIN, and the VIN code will tell you what trim level the car "really" is, and if it doesn't have the VIN code to back up the SS badge, then it's not an SS. I really don't understand why people would want to put the wrong badge on their car. All a true SS badged car does, is tell you that it left the assembly line as an SS. You know what parts it had when it left the factory. You can leave it stock, you can trick it out to 1,000+ HP, but it's still an SS, because that's what it was when it left the line, and that's what the VIN code says it is. Just because you build up a car to have more power and performance than an SS, if it didn't leave the assembly line as an SS, it is not, and will never be, an SS. I personally have more respect for someone that says, "My car is not an SS, it's a [fill in the blank], but I've done these mods to it and it's x amount of horsepower," than I would for someone that says, "My car isn't an SS, but since I modified it to have more horsepower than the SS, I'm calling it one now, and put the SS badges on it." By the same token, as I continue modifying my SS, there will come a point where I will supercede the horsepower and torque numbers of a ZL1, but I'm not going to say, "Oh, I'm supercharged and got enough power under the hood now, so I can call my car a ZL1 and swap the hood/fascia out and badge it as a ZL1." My car was "born" as an SS, and it will always be an SS, nothing more, even when I have more under the hood than a ZL1. |

I used to see lots of bimmers posing as M3 or M5. I personally have a 525 that is debadged and modded out a bit, though not to look like an M5, just to look a bit more aggressive and less like the family car. I even had M5 owners compliment me on her. I would never put an M5 badge on her because I have more respect for the car than that. I would say the same thing for the Camaro. If someone wants to mod it to their liking, more power to them. I think badging it as something its not sucks, but in the end who cares. Have a laugh at their expense or call them out. Be proud of what you have and enjoy it and know you have the real thing!

Dude, seriously? Man, my buddy back home, who's always been a Mustang guy, got me good with something similar. He bought a Ford blue oval logo at the flea market that had a magnetic back to it. I didn't know it, and I ended up driving around town all day with a Ford logo stuck on the back of my Camaro.
![]() I was so pissed when we got home and I saw it.

it has nothing to do with performance with the badge. even if it out performances the model above yours it still doesn't not make it the same model. now if i was your father i would just keep no badges on it. because GM didn't make a SS with that engine from factory that year. if you were to go to a auction with that car, would you call it a SS ? thats what i thought. |

![]() Just like my friend's '98 Silverado, tuned with 530+ HP; at a traffic light beside both a Porsche and a Mustang GT who are looking to race when it turns green! Off they go and yes you guessed it... we were beside them all the way and they were shocked how a Silverado is keeping up with them and took them half a bowtie! ![]() LOVED THE FEELING!! I think the porsche guy went to seel his car after what he just saw!

Also, our SSs only come with A6 or M6 transmissions. If you swap it out with a TH400 transmission does that mean it's not an SS anymore?

I think the whole point of the OP is about respecting the car you drive, you seem to be one who does (as has been said, it's not the goal to bash V6 drivers, just the ones who badge their cars as something "high end", while it isn't). The only thing they get, well, people who know what an SS is, will notice right away... People who think it's an SS (like let's say a V6 Mustang owner), might want to give it a try and brag later on that they "smoked an SS", which they didn't... Personally I'm with the OP, buy a car, and stick with it, don't try to pretend it's something else. For those modding the V6 and making it perform better than a stock SS, all the better, but don't pretend you're an apple if you're a pear... You'll only end up making an idiot out of yourself some day. |
