the most important part of gaining power is tuning. if if you added Long tube headers, the gains wont be there. because the stock tune.

I think the main reason that people give up the warranty is that you are not likely to use the "power-train" portion of the warranty. Things like switches and smaller motors like with window motor and water pump which break more often would still be covered. That 100,000 miles warranty covers very little that is likely to break unless you are really moding and racing your car.

And if something does breaks, I'll replace it with something better/stronger, etc.

But I do understand the need to keep a full warranty for many.

that very little it covers seems to be the most expensive to fix though, correct?

but in regards to tunes in general, are they safe? are there any negative effects to tuning?

Yes it's the most expensive part to fix but it is by far the least likely part to need fixing unless you do radical changes to the engine without properly reinforcing certain parts.

A good tune is perfectly safe and with LTs and an intake does not increase the chance of damaging the engine by any significant amount.

To tune or not to tune, that is the question.

+1....

And the reason I buy GM vehicles is after years of new car ownership, I have never taken a GM product to the dealer due to a warranty issue.

Sure, others have issues and perhaps I'm lucky but I'm not gonna dwell on warranty concerns especially when I've never needed it to begin with. My 2 cents.

just realized, wouldnt reducing weight in the drivetrain increase HP to the wheels? shouldnt affect Crank rating, but power to the wheels would be increased. (is this correct?)

maybe when i replace the clutch i can include an aluminum flywheel, along with a light weight drive shaft?
