KnightRiderSS : Could you tell me how much it was for the new bolt/stud. Thanks Edit: I was able to xray the bolt/stud today at work and it IS a forged piece so the hex head CANNOT be removed. Not sure on my build date i'll have to go out and see but i bought it in april 2010 and it has the nut/ hex head that was posted by IndeedSS1

I bought a replacement bolt for ~$4 at the dealership; should be here in a few days.

My Camaro was built May 2010, it has a few 2011 parts on it (trunk lid)

I will post a picture of the bolt once I get it in.

This thread BTW is NOT a diss at the Elite Engineering guys...they have been MORE than helpful resolving my issues and in my opinion make a superior product...I just felt the need to emphasize this in case people are giving their product a second thought because of the issues I've had with the OEM bolt.

So are you getting one with or without the nut?

And I agree that this is not something Elite could have forseen.

We'll have a 2010 Camaro in the shop on Tuesday and we plan to do a thorough inspection and analysis on the current mounting set-up. I just want to be sure that we come up with the best overall permanent solution that will work for everyone.

Update to follow, I hope you all have a safe happy 4th of July weekend.

Mine is mounted with all the hardware sent by Elite except we cut the rod short and mounted under the battery cable bracket...

After seeing what happened to the others, I quickly decided to move my Elite catch can to the bracket on the drivers side. Cyclic stresses cause premature failures. I wondered when I installed mine if the original set up would be adequate. Obviously not.

I was leary about this setup as well. I bought the Corvette mounting bracket a while back. I tried to install this bracket yesterday. I could not get it to work. The harness and the ground cable are in the way and there is not enough excess to reroute them. I guess I'll run without a CC until a good solution is found or I switch to a different can.

Elite Engineering, when you decide what the best solution is for this problem, would you be sure to put me on your list of customers to contact? I at least would like the bracket to mount my catch can to the unused airbox bolt. That seems like the best solution at this point.

Thanks to the OP for bringing this potential problem to our attention and to EE for working on a quick solution.

I would like to respond to the comment from Elite. I have had two bolt failures with this catch can. In both cases the nut was removed. I did wonder if the shaft was threaded deep enough to allow it to tighten against the block. When I replaced the bolt/stud and reinstalled the catch can, I made sure this was not the case and it broke again. I contacted Elite April 15th and informed them of the problem. Steve's responce...."Thanks for your email. This IS the first we have heard of this problem. I'll discuss this with out team tomorrow. We also have an alternate mounting location off the radiator shroud if you would like that bracket." They sent me the v-6 mounting bracket and it worked great with some modifications for the V8. I have had no further problems. As stated before, the shaft is too long and the stud cannot live in those conditions.

Thanks..
