UPDATE...went over a took a closer look at the car and orange peel it the least of my worries.

1. Looks like a paint brush bristle in the paint next to the brake light.
2. Plenty of dirt in the paint...not the clear.
3. Body lines where the cover meets the quarter panel has a bigger gap on one side than the other.
4. Inconsistent coverage in a small area.
5. Big glob of paint in one corner.
6. Missing paint in another corner.

I can hardly wait to go see them tomorrow.

I cant believe that a shop would even consider letting this sort of work go out the door!

I love the excuses people make to justify their lack of skill in their particular trade.

Interesting since every Camaro off the line comes with orange peel effect on them. I'm guessing this is very bad? You need some to match the rest of the car. In fact i made absolutely sure it was matched correctly when i had a small area repaired after an LEO opened his door into my fender a few months back. They matched it perfect.

Wait, what? Did you not read the OP's post, or is this sarcasm that didn't work? His dealer is the one that screwed everything up.

As the poster's last line said NEVER GO TO THE DEALER FOR BODY WORK!!!! Not that all business are not driven by profits, but at a new car dealer since they don't make a ton of profit at the front door(sales) they look to make the bulk of the money at the back door (repair & body shop) and since most cars at the dealer are warranted work, they don't make what they think they should on the repair work. That leaves the bulk of the money to be made from body shop work, and most if not all of that work is paid for by insurance companies. I have owned 7 new GM products and 2 new BMW units in my life, I have a body shop that does impeccable paint work, there motto is when we work on your car WE OWN YOUR CAR!

The body shop called me this morning to say they were taking the bumper off and repainting it.

I dont understand why they put it back on in the first place when the defects were pointed out last week.

Pride in the work is not a concern I guess!

Speak for yourself. I just don't like knocking this Camaro. My paint is perfect for an assembly line car. No runs, no orange peel, no mismatched panels, etc.
"Every Camaro" doesn't come with excessive orange peel.
It's obvious this shop screwed up this repair- case closed.

Fast forward to today...I decided to swing by the dealer where my car is and it is sitting outside with everything done so I stop to look at it and without even getting out of my car, me and my wife immediately notice the orange peel all over the back bumper. Upon closer inspection, I see dirt in the clear coat as well.

I stop in to talk to the body shop guy and he said the car is done a ready for clean up. I asked him about the orange peel and his reply was "...and its not a factory paint job now!" He then goes on to say that its difficult to get an orange peel free paint job outside the factory. Ummm, I have seen plenty of after market, orange peel free, paint jobs.

I have yet to talk to the body shop manager but at this point I am not going to accept the paint job as it is.

I knew I shouldnt have taken it to a dealer for the repairs!
I went through the same thing with my dealership after they repainted my bumper and there was no metallic in it. I heard 'that's as good as it's gonna get', 'I used Chevy paint, it doesn't match cuz it's not from the factory', etc.

Ended up having the take the car to a place that specializes in Corvette restorations, where they actually care about the finished product and making the customer happy.

Good luck!!

I couldn't believe the crappy orange peel paint job that comes from the factory!
I love my Camaro but sorry to say that Chevy lacks in quality!

All cars come with some degree of orange peel when painted. It is the color sanding that makes it go away. I had a $10K paint job on my classic car and went nuts when I first saw it after paint. The painter told me he still needed to color sand it and it would look like a mirror when he was done. He was right.

Im starting to loose complete confidence in the shop as when they called this morning, they said they were taking the rear bumper off to paint it but I just drove by and the bumper is still on the car and the rest of the care is masked off.

Turns out they tried to sand out the hair that was in the paint this morning and it didnt work out so they THEN decided to repaint. Helps having a friend that works in the detailing shop there.

I will be calling my insurance company in the morning to get them involved and see if I can take it to a better shop to get the paint done properly...or they will loose a customer as well as the body shop.

Stay tuned!
