Just went down to the local muffler shop for a exhaust

I was going to buy a corsa or borla cat back exhaust this week but after reading about them basically just providing extra sound I decided to go down to the local muffler shop and save about a $1,000. I had the muffler shop cut the resonator off and replace with straight pipe and add 2 magnaflow mufflers (replacing the stock). It sounds good especially after about 2200 rpms very little drone. I can feel better throttle response from a roll but from a dead start i cant tell if it hurt me or not but i have only driven about 20 miles. I can hear the Vararam sucking better know despite the extra sound for $366.00 out the door its all good

Rick

2 mods Vararam and Magnaflow mufflers

sorry for a noob question, but I gotta ask....

1. why cut off the resonators?
2. where are the resonators?
3. Do you have factory H-pipe or aftermarket x-pipe?

I have been reading every post I can about muffler delete and am not really that much clearer on what is best.

You REALLY need to add a X or H pipe back in there. It's located inside the resonator section on the L99. It's been shown that you LOSE HP and Tq by not having one or the other in there. It should be in about the same location as well.

resonators are on this pic in orange towards the mufflers . if i was doing a muffler delete on a LS3 i would probs straight pipe them as well as the mufflers. should be littler louder but should also drone more. but i wont care.

x pipe will give you a more "exotic" tone sort of speak. h pipe will give you a deeper tone. some will argue but they flow all around the same

You would basically have the same exhaust set-up that I've had for over a year now. I would recommend either the x-pipe or h-pipe. Mine has the x-pipe leading to oval Magnaflow's. Most muffler shops have h and x-pipes stocked.

There are many options. I have a friend that has a muffler shop and he had a Magnaflow Tru-X pipe on hand that he sold me for cost. I've seen the same ones go for around $75. It's a universal 2.5in X pipe but fits perfectly in the area where the stock one was.

Thanks for the info guys I am going back to the muffler shop tomorrow to see if they have a x pipe they can install for me if not should i ask them to make me one or just order the Magnaflow x pipe. This seems like the correct thing to do considering my only mods will be a vararam air intake, this exhaust, and a ported t-body. Currently i kind of feel like i lost a little power from a dead stop and the exhaust at low rpm's does not sound right it does not sound good to me until it gets above 2500

Thanks
Rick

Same thing happened to me after I did my headers and custom exhaust...I lost low end power, even with the xpipe, but gained high end...I had to go get a dyno tune to fix it and it definitely fixed it
