the 2010 SS is electronically limited to 155mph... and the reason is because the vehicle speed sensors are rated for that speed.

OK, I'm dumb. What speed sensors? What do they control?

It's been covered in the Engine forums.

What does it control? Basically the cruise control throttle actuator. The throttle is by wire (computer) and interfaced with Stabilitrak. The ASR component can do a number of things... including push back on the pedal and retard timing.

Got it, thanks. You're comment about the sensors "rated" for a certain speed threw me off. Like the sensors would fail if you exceeded their limits or something.

I thought I read somewhere it was in the 180 range give or take a few. It makes no sense the v6 having the same speed rating especially since the competition is higher. So I don't think that 155 for the SS is the same. If that was the case why the 2 different Speedometers , I don't think so.

A vehicle's speed rating has nothing to do with horsepower or sensors or what the speedometer shows. It is there to prevent the car from exceeding the speed rating on the factory tires. Doing so can lead to a catastrophic tire failure.

If your doing any run be it 0 - 60, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile or tops speed. He should have used the full rpm and power the tires would hold to maximize the speed of the car early in the run so he has more road to complete the run.

That amount of initial inertia he left on the table can make a difference in its top speed capability. It was still trying to pull up all be it slowely with about 500 rpm left when he lifted. I think 205 or more was not impossible.

That being said even 155 would be enough for me anyways. I like hitting 130/140 once in while but I am more into the short runs. 1/8 and 1/4.

They could limit the speed to what ever they like the point is it would be pointless to have 2 different gauges if so. Why waste the money and time then.

buy tires rated for higher speeds and tune the limiter out =) that first part is more important unless you want to die...oh and go to a track if you plan to go that fast
