Had to stop mid project to go get a u-joint for my socket. DEFINITELY need the u-joint. If anybody did this project without it, let me know how.

I ended up not using the u-joint, but I did have to move the heat shield out of the way (which wasn't in the instructions). It was V8 if that makes a diff. in the install.

All's well that ends well. Shifter installed and I love the mod! I hope I can get to a show at some point to see what the MGW entire assy replacement would feel like.

Installed my Barton yesterday. I had some issues with getting the stock shifter out until I realized that the shift fork needed to be shoved forward into 1st or 3rd, not just moved out of the way. Also, the pin between the shifter and the fork needs to come out the driver's side. I hit the housing when I tried to remove it on the passenger's side. Had a bit of trouble with the dreaded boot but was able to get it seated.

I adjusted the shifter to the shortest throw possible. Found that the effort to get it out of 2nd and 4th was too much so I've moved it up 3 turns. Will take it for a test drive today to see how it feels. Love the infinite adjustability of the unit.

Shifter is really solid and I've got no noise from it up to 4500 RPM's. (Haven't had a chance to get it up higher yet.) I'm running with the stock knob so it's very stealthy. I'm bringing it into the dealership to get the spoiler chips fixed (finally) so I will see if they mention anything. Overall first impressions is that I definitely got the right shifter and would recommend it.

Just call Dave at Barton Industries. They sent me a copy out after I needed the directions when I took the shifter out of my coupe and put it into my vert this year. I looked for mine and could not find them again

Sure is adjustable the top half of the the shaft can screw up and down to change the shift arm travel. Big difference between screwed all the way down vs at the top. You need to take your shift boot off to get at the bolt that holds the shaft.

Will this improve the "spring return" when doing a 5-4 or 2-3 shift? New Camaro owner, and I find it hard to downshift from 5 to 4 because the shifter is not springing back to center as much as id like. I know the MGW states that they stiffen the return springs but I have not seen that claim here

The Barton has a strong centering action on its own. I did not reinstall the OEM centering springs when installing my Barton and have not had any issues.

Do you happen to know if this is taller or shorter than the 1le/zl1 shifter. I like that the stock shifter in the car is shorter than stock ss but really want some threads to change the knob. Thanks
