Just changed mine (2244 miles) and it wasn't real dirty but it had quite a bit of metal in it.
Quick test drive, I can feel a difference for sure. It's not night and day but a very noticeable improvement!
I can even feel it just cruising down the street not only during shifts.
Makes me want to change all of the fluids.

P.S. the 8.00 pump from the parts store made it very quick and easy! About 45 minutes and most of that was jacking up the car.

I think there are some "break-in" additives as well as some assembly lube in the rear diff on a new car which cause the discoloration and awful smell. I seem to feel some improvement in shifting smoothness. I also suffer from the high rpm grind in shifting from first to second gear. The reason I went with Royal Purple was some had changed over to it and felt some improvement with that issue.

I did not add the Limited Slip additive as Royal Purple has an additive for LS in it already. I have older muscle cars and use it in the LS in my Oldsmobiles and have not had a problem.

yeah...the hand pump was well worth the $8!

If I would got it right from the beginning it would have been a 30 minute job.

Royal Purple Syncromax, not 75W90 for the 6 speed Tranny. Hope you just typed the wrong info by mistake. 75W-90 goes in the differential. hope this helps.

There's def noticeable difference. For me it was almost night and day especially 1-2 but as the time went on it does not feel like the first couple days but the difference is still very noticeable.

I recommend for everyone with manual to do this. I have to get to my differential next.

edit: wait a minute.. that video of jagans is for differential change.

i've been slacking on this, but plan to do this soon. i'm confused on how much fluid i need to buy. you say 1.9qt, but this thread says roughly 4 qts. is it because it's for the SS?

and i think the other guy was right, the 75w-90 is for differential. or are they both the same?

Just 1.9 quarts for the V6 manual trans. I've tried 3 different aftermarket brands, but the Royal Purple 75w90 gear oil does work well in both the diff and trans. I believe they call it Gearmax, you don't want the Synchromax.

And buy a handpump at the auto-parts store- you'll need it to make short work of filling the trans. Also Royal P.'s bottle had a too small opening for my pump, so I had to tranfer the oil to another empty bottle with the correct size...It's always something!!!

i was thinking of trying the method that was used in the link i provided. they just used a 4 or 6ft clear hose and ran it from the fill hole, up through the engine bay, then just poored the bottle from up top.

and make sure the hose is big enough. I ended up buying a smaller hose probably a little bigger than mc donald's straw and ended up suffering while pumping the crap out of the fluid for hours please don't make the same stupid mistake as I have lol. I still haven't gotten to my differential but I know I have to. Been lazy lately.

Should I be concerned after 30K miles for the tranny and rear diff fluid?
