Good luck installing 4th gen headers in 1.5 hours.

You guys do realize that this is the 4th gen section and that he's asking about LT's for an LS1 right?

to the OP, Check out Hooker Super Comp LT's. they have a slip-fit joint on the #1 primary that eliminates the need to have to disconnect the steering rod to slip it between the primary tubes.

Also, if you are planning on installing LT's, get a new set of polyurethane engine mounts and change those out while the exhaust is off the car. it will help realign the engine in the engine bay and raise it a hair or two which will allow for easier installation of the new headers.

I've run 3 different sets of premium headers on my 4th gen... ARH is the best fitment and the only choice for me... I run 2" primaries right now....

Got great fit and build quality out of the slp's. The only downside is they hang low and mate that with the 3 inch y-pipe......yikes, avoid speed bumps. I def had to adjust driving style, unless you prefer the scrapes.

You do realize that ARH hand Kooks makes LT's for the LS1 4th gen right?

Also you don't need to remove the steering shaft to install the ARH headers on these cars. I don't know that any headers for these cars has the steering shaft running through the headers to begin with.

yes and you do realize that the posts I quoted were talking about 5th gen headers.

it happens all the time. people click "new posts" and see someone asking about mods and dont pay attention to which section they are in.

Mine wasn't referring to 5th gens It must've gotten lumped in there with the others or something.

Either way, just installed ARH headers on friends car yesterday. Great quality and fit. Now to do my car.

I've run two sets of QTPs on my car ('02 LS1) and installed a set on my brother's '02. I started with MAC mids', and went with the standard QTPs later with their cat'd Y-pipe. Later, I moved into their newer HVMCs. I picked up more than 10 RWHP with just the HVMCs. However, the Y-pipe, though it was probably the best flowing Y-pipe at the time because of it's tube size and true, Flowmaster merge collector, was a real bugger for ground clearance. The driver's side cat' hung really low. Eventually, I switched to different cats', and moved them both right off the collectors and after I trimmed a little of the floor pan brace above the driver's side cat', ground clearance was A LOT better.

The quality of the materials of the all three QTPs were EXCELLENT. The fitment of my first set of standard collector QTPs were EXCELLENT as well as the quality of the workmanship. That kinda' changed with my brother's HVMCs and mine. He had a really bad collector that wasn't welded completely around the merge spike, and mine wasn't much better. Otherwise, they were very good. Were it not for the complicated merge collectors, I'd give those QTPs the highest marks, but I can't.

If you're working on a 4th Gen, you can go wrong with Kooks or ARH. ARH has standard HVMC collectors and I believe Kooks has a standard collector they say is HVMC, but really isn't, IMO. At the time, they had optional TRUE HVMC collectors, which I would say to go for. I like ARH's Y-pipe a little better because I always though Kook's merge wasn't that clean, but both have great quality, ground clearance, and great materials. Dynatechs were good, but I never liked their small Y-pipes, but clearance and quality were certainly on par with the others.

I'm sticking with my original statement, since they are on all my cars (4 in all). They also have had great customer service.

Oh, I'm not doubting ARH's product at all. Just speaking in a general sense of things.

IMO, a tie between American Racing (ARH) and Kooks LT headers. Both are designed with quality and longevity in mind. You slap a pair of pacesetters on and sure you got a bargain..

However: Congratulations, you just bought dollar store wrenches as opposed to Snap-On wrenches in the world of headers.

The pretty penny is for a reason; design, engineering, testing, retesting, quality control..

Just had this discussion at a local cruise in last weekend and the end result between 20 bickering LS/LT fanboys was an Kooks/ARH tie.

My headers are for making power... not looking pretty.
