You have to - at the very least - be a member of USAA. It might not be common knowledge, but anyone can sign up for basic banking services. Membership qualifies you to get the insurance, loans, and other perks. So you have to be eligible for membership, not just have banking services with them.

From their website:

"USAA's investment products, most checking and savings products, credit cards, life insurance, and shopping and discounts are available to other individuals."

I would highly recommend banking with them. By far, absolutely no contest, the best bank I have ever had. I LOVE them!

You are missing out if not using the banking. All the little bennies that others don't have are too long to list here, but you'll see once you start using your membership. ...and thanks for your service...

As long as you qualify for FULL membership meaning you can get their insurance and some of the extra services that a basic banking member does not get then you can get the $750. To be a FULL member you have to have either been in the military or one of your parents were in the military. It passes down not up. My Father does not qualify, but my son does. Some dealers don't quite know all the USAA rules and may try to give you the discount anyway.

Or a spouse of a USAA member (or former spouse who has already signed up!). I advise everyone who has access to membership at USAA to take full advantage of it and sign their children up for an account to ensure they're ready to go and don't have to jump through any hoops when they're older.

USAA auto buying program is awesome. We saved almost 10k off msrp on our 10 Merc C350. USAA was offering 7k off through them, and after bartering some more.... Now I just wonder if my dealer will add this discount onto my 2012 that I have already ordered and am getting for dealer costs?

ABSOLUTELY... my kids are all signed up...

In fact my Son (w/ great job and no credit history) could not get a car loan and had been dragging his feet about signing up w/ USAA. We found a great used car so he finally signed up and got his loan. And he did it all at 9:00 PM and had a car loan by 9:30 PM. Drove it home the next day.

Yes he definitely will.... this is not money out of his pocket...

On my first Camaro I didn't even find out about it until I handed them a USAA check... good thing I hadn't filled out the amount yet...

I've been a member of NFCU(Navy Federal Credit Union) for nearly 30 years now and I joined USAA after discovery their auto buying program recently although NFCU just added their own auto buying service also. I would definitely recommend USAA and NFCU for any financial services.

Not sure on this but being a member of ANY credit union gets you a discount. Anybody able to confirm this? I haven't finalized my deal yet so can't confirm.

As far as GM cars are concerned I'm pretty sure USAA is the only one... there may be a couple others, but definitely not ALL.

Also, USAA is not a Credit Union...

Thanks Becky, good to know. I have know the company since they were in a not so small building on Broadway. Charles Cheever did great and General McDermott was great and really put them on the map (aided by the strong character of their orginal officer membership). Since that time they have opened it up and the strong military based membership continues the legacy. The leadership has done well in the uncharted waters since then.

Becky, do you know if this will be able to be used in conjunction with the GM Military Discount? I couldn't on my 2011, but I'll need all the help I can get trading up to the 2012 45th Anniversary Edition!

It's compatible with the Military Discount and only the
convertible was excluded to begin with. It's now added
so everything should be

Becky,
Is there a Military Discount on the 2012? If so, how much or is it a special rate? Placing the order this week! I am also adding the Hennessey HPE650!!! One bad ride!!!

The Military Discount falls under the preferred
pricing just like credit union discount or college
grad discount or GM Friends and family discount.

You should be good, just make sure the dealer
is aware of it. Adding a Hennessey HPE650
That's going to be one heck of a car
