Is your stuff drooping/wrinkling

Stiffen it up and add a classy touch of chrome to your VR

I like...

That part on my Vararam is not sitting as upright as it should....looks more like the pictures posted a few pages back.

So tell us (me lol) what did you use for the chrome strip?

Auto Edge Trim from PepBoys and it was a PIA to install but I like the results.

Im using the chrome filter until this Wednesday. Since today is Monday, I think my car can make it. That reminds me I should check with fed ex...

So I drove today through what was essentially a torrential downpour. Cars were pulled over because of lack of visibility, I hydroplaned a couple of times on the Capitol Beltway there was so much water. I got to my destination after about 30 minutes of driving and popped the hood.

There were about 20 droplets of water in the upper housing of the intake - about 6-8 on the raised plastic area around the filter. The front portions of the seal were very wet where it makes contact with the OEM gasket that seals with the hood. The radiator shroud in front of that gasket was soaked.

Although there was some water, the conditions I drove through were rather extreme. Twenty drops of water is not going to hydrolock your engine, even if it all went directly into the throttle body. The filter is absorbent; however, so it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that liquid of any form made it through the filter - 20 drops of water would merely be soaked up by the filter and would dry out quickly.

Bottom line - I don't think hydrolocking is a concern with this intake unless you literally flood the area with water - and if that happens you're pretty much hosed anyway.

For those concerned, I wonder if you could take a water repellent material and wrap it around the filter. The downside to this is that you would inherently decrease the amount of airflow through the filter which would in turn hurt performance. I honestly don't think it's an issue though.

By the time I would have been able to take a picture, it had all dried out - so my apologies for not being able to illustrate with anything other than words.

Congratulations, inform your daughter once the ECU or ECM learns the new trims... Going from 0 - 40 will be alot easier and the exhaust note is so awesome she will wish for more stop lights.
(BTW - I dont stop at 40 mph just saying)

Thank you very very much for this reply. It rained today not as bad as your rain but it rained. I am no longer worried about it. I think I will oil the filter a little more often say once every three months. Again thank you for your concern and taking time to post an excellent write up.

Humm, well depends on the quility of mechanics

It took me about 1.5 hours because of OCD when installing something. The only hard part is cutting the brackets. Other than that it truly is easy. I think the Radiator Bracket cut can affect the fit of the intake. I cut my brackets down level with the inside besel that holds the rubber gromet. My intake fit like a glove, this of course is just my experiance. So take it for what its worth. Also my car (stated incorrectly in another post) has only 2200 miles on it. Although I dont think that has anything to do with the install of this item.

Don't over oil the filter, it will end up getting oil on the MAF...

Just a quick question...

Can you get a dry filter for the Vararam, or just oiled?
