Don't waste your money on harbor freight, their torque wrench broke. First one I thought was a fluke, and after the second I said screw them. I got one on Amazon for like 50 bucks. I can't remember the brand right now.

I always put the Compressor Pressure to 80psi and hit it till it stops. I know some tire shops do this, so... But yes, TT is the best method.

I always use a torque wrench - its hard on the rotors if the nuts are not tightened evenly.

btw, I buy a lot of stuff from Harbor Freight, but one thing I'll never buy from them is a torque wrench.

I DO NOT LET ANYONE PUT ANYTHING BUT A TORQUE WRENCH ON MY WHEELS TO TIGHTEN TO SPECS, you can use a spinner wench to put them on and off with, but by no means use a impart wench.

Man there are a lot of people in this thread giving out some very bad advice. Op I wouldn't listen to anything you've heard except spyderbuddy.
There's a reason why the spec calls for a specific value and you should stick to what it calls for to the letter. Aluminum wheels aren't as forgiving as the old steel wheels used to be ,but even those should be torqued to spec.

Well my post was from real world experience with improperly installed and torqued wheels. When the car is out of your sight you have no idea how they installed them. It's not just a wheel problem.

I do 4 "chugga-chuggas" on the air gun...

just kidding! I use a breaker bar and pull them pretty tight.

But if you aren't 100% sure of how tight you think they should be..torque wrench ftw

A lot of good stuff coming from this, but what range of pressure should the torque wrench be able to detect? And does the socket end size matter? 3/8? 1/2? which one? What kind of sensor or scale is the best? Digital or just a scale plate?

I don't buy anything from Harbor anymore it's all pretty cheap junk. get what you pay for.

If its calibrated right it doesn't matter what size wrench. 140ft-lbs is 140ft-lbs. Although I had a hard time finding a 3/8" that went up that high; found a 1/2" that went up to 150 ft-lbs at sears. Before that I did most everything with a 3/8" that went up to 90 but the camaro wheels and suspension have some real high specs.

Certain specs I don't mess with. Suspension, wheels, brakes, and engine. They are what they are for a reason. Safety. I don't buy into the "my grandpappy did it this way for 60 years and nothing went wrong" mentality. I know a lot of morons; doesn't mean because he runs into a brick wall for fun I want to as well. I had the wheel studs snap on a previous car and the wheel came off on the highway after a shop didn't torque it properly. Talk about pucker factor.

I complained to the manager but he swore that it wouldn't make any difference. First time I applied the brakes the steering wheel shook violently. When I got home I loosened them and Retorqued them, but it was too late. It still has a slight vibration. Before i had the new tires put on it was as smooth as glass. I replaced the rotors and it is smooth again....Now that tire store is out of business.
What... you blamed your warped rotors on the poor guy who tightened your lug nuts...

@OP buy a torque wrench and tighten them to 140ft-lbs like the manual says and use the star pattern, that's what I do.

Seeing as how I've had a shop tighten the lug nuts on my Eclipse so hard, me jumping on the breaker bar didn't loosen them, I wouldn't doubt it.

An impact wrench is pretty unforgiving when the car only needs 73 ft-lbs (talking about my eclipse with that #).
