Might be a dumb question, SS tranny into V6?
Sorry if this is dumb, because Im dumb when it comes to trannys.
Could you in theory swap out a manual V6 tranny for a manual SS tranny? Or would it be cheaper to take my V6 tranny to a good shop and get it built? |

The gear ratios in the SS trans are totally different than in teh V6 trans. Also an adapter plate for the bellhousing to mate to the engine would need to be made and depending on the length of the SS trans the driveshaft may or may not have to be altered in length... that's just a few of the issues with that swap

Well, the taller ratios from the SS would kill performance, and 6th gear would basically be unusable, as that would leave you with a V6 with a .57 overdrive and a 3.27 rear end. The V6 simply doesn't have enough torque for the LS3's ratios.
Just curious, what are you planning that would require a stronger transmission?

I dont think he necessarily needs a stronger one, I think he just wants one that doesnt grind

On a stock car ours grinds from 1st to 2nd when you try to speed shift or shift in the 5k and up rpm range. Synchronizes cant take the punishment. I switched to a synthetic trans lube and can speed shift with no grind. Still don't do it too often though.
