My previous experience with hail in Virginia, 3 times, a Honda, A Monte Carlo, and an Explorer. All three had paintless dent repair, amazing, after they were done, you never knew it happened, paint on the Monte Carlo, 5 years later.. never cracked, never had any issues on any of them. Just my experience. Sorry it happened, I pray every time a storm comes along.

My shop said straight away new panels and repaint. They said there is no way with all those dents they could get it perfect because of the black paint and it would take them 3 times longer.

I'm gonna put 200k miles on this thing anyway, so screw originality it may as well look nice.

Are they repainting your entire car? What are they replacing?

Sounds like we have exactly the same damage.

How are they going to fix the roof and quarter panels?

OK, but new paint won't fill in the dents. I didn't want a bunch of dents filled with bondo and then painted. What is your definiton of "done right"? I'm not arguing, just asking for details as I'm about to have mine fixed. Replacing all the panels would be fine, but insurance won't go for that I'm sure, at least for mine (which isn't as bad as the others). I don't care how long it takes them, I want it back perfect.

As far as they told me this morning they are replacing the hood, roof, and trunklid. I believe the entire roof between the drip rails comes off somehow. Then the fenders and quarters I would assume they will be using a combination of PDR and body filler. I'm interested also to know how they are going to do the A & C pillars (and above the window) but I would assume they are disassembling most of the top of the car to get the roof off anyway so they can probably get them that way.

Then they said because the car is black to sit there and try and blend new panels taking up half the car they may as well paint the whole damn thing. It kind of works out for me because I have some scratches on my front bumper and d/s fender that will end up getting fixed...

I'll post pics tonight when I get home from work. Its hard to see but I would estimate I have over a couple hundred dents.

I have about 200-300 dents. Id rather have a complete repaint as well and get some good clear coat on the car.

These cars all need a repaint eventually because the paint is terrible from factory, might as well get it done now for free.

Have you asked if you can get an aftermarket hood as well? Im going to try and do that.

Considering the quality of work at the shop I use I am sure it will look 10x better than new.

That said I'm 100% sure that the auto insurance company is going to fight them and say it can all be done PDR. The hood roof and trunk are aluminum, 1 or 2 dents, sure, but this many? No way, it will have more waves than the Atlantic.

I didn't ask for an aftermarket hood because I like the stock hood, I honestly just want it to look the same as before. The only thing I'm going to have them do is paint my bowties black since the car will be apart anyway, I just have some crap vinyl on them now. They will also need to re-install my CGM Hood/Hockey Stripes but that will probably be 6 weeks after so the paint can cure. I don't want to paint them on as I like having the option to remove them some day to easily change the look of the car.

Agreed on the car looking better, these cars didnt come with the best black paint job Ive ever seen.

I just called insurance and they said their shops are swamped so they will have no choice but take whatever my shop decides to do. Im pretty sure they will recommend a repaint as well.

I like turning negatives into a positive and the best way I can do that in this situation is get a newer hood out of this mess. I love the stock hood but there are some nice aftermarket solutions available that I consider to be upgrades.

Anyways keep me posted, Ill pm you what happens to mine.

Im kind of looking forward to having a before and after thread. Hopefully this will all be sorted out in the next 2-3 weeks.

Wow, sorry to hear of this happening. Look on the bright side. Maybe this is the silver lining after you had to change your engine.
New V6 now new paint.
Got hit in a hail storm down at the Beach one day. Was sitting in the car looking at the water, sky turns dark and I hear tic tic tic on the roof.
The hail was small enough so there was no damage.
But a neighbors deck umbrella just got my car in wild weather last week.
