Read the manual section 6-7 This explains the cars electric power management and sections 5-17 & 5-34 Its all in there. The problem may be the radar detector not the car.

Next time the radar detector shuts off, stick a volt meter in the cig lighter. If you show mid 12's at the cig lighter outlet, nothing wrong with the car.

If the only problem is the radar detector, I'd bet it's the radar detector. An actual alternator or battery problem, you'd know it with a no start, check engine light, and diagnostic trouble codes. If your car has never failed to start, nothing wrong with that battery and alternator.

I have never seen a voltage reading in the Dic? Where is the page located that shows this? There is only two main sections in the d.i.c with all the sub pages right?

you guys need to stop looking at your cars as though there from 1970s,this is probably normal operation,gm has done this since about 2000,why have the alt charging when its not needed so the pcm actually can turn the field off or on and even modulate for different voltages and loads.
