Checking in from the south shore of Long Island, directly in the path of Miz Irene!!!

Got a bag packed in case we have to evacuate...I live about a half mile from the bay, and a few miles from the ocean...the bay is the only barrier between the ocean and my house

Preparing for the worst, and hoping for the best...the last major hurricane to hit Long Island directly was Hurricane Gloria in 1985...my parents and in-laws lost power for 2 weeks and there was a ton of downed trees...

We're gonna be O.K. here. It looks like western Long Island is gonna get a direct hit from the hurricane. I'm sure you'll do what you have to do, but by all means, be safe.

I'm in western LI...got an automated phone call at 7am from our town and there is a mandatory evacuation of everyone south of one of the roads in my town...I am a few blocks north of that road, so hope I don't have to leave my house

i want to say this hurricane will not doing any major damage. but that's just me hoping.

i hope everyone in the east coast is ready and i hope again that this hurricane does not strike hard.
