1) The GT500 is built on the exact same production line as every other Mustang. That would be the Auto Alliance International facility in Flat Rock, Michigan.

2) The 5.4L engines are hand-assembled at Ford's Romeo engine facility and then shipped to AAI to be installed in the GT500.

3) The cars are NOT built by Ford and Shelby. SVT designed and engineered the vehicle as the replacement vehicle for the '03-'04 Cobras of the previous generation. The internal name for the car was "Condor". The cars would have been produced as Cobra's if not for the fact that Ford and Shelby reconciled their past issues and, as a brilliant marketing move, struck a deal by which the "Condor" would wear Shelby's name and GT500 moniker instead of being released as a "Cobra" Mustang.

4) GT500's never see Carroll Shelby's Las Vegas facility and not one part on the GT500's is anything other than what is produced by Ford Motor Company.

5) GT500's are not tuned by Shelby, they are calibrated by Ford just like every other Mustang produced.
I just said that

Well, considering how much incorrect crap we saw ealier in the thread, repeating the facts is probably not such a bad thing.

Great info, I googled and found that Motor Trend lists the base MSRP at over $46K plus options. Seems to me you can spec out a GT500 for close to $50K.

Can this be correct?? Dam that's vette pricing.

For the 2010, that is a correct base. Base on the 2007-2009 is/was $42,685. The 2010 is a better car all-around, so I imagine that accounts for the price increase.

As soon as they make a Corvette at any price that I can legally let my two boys ride with me in, then I might consider buying one, otherwise, I'm more than happy with my 10-second Mustang.

If not actually built by Ford (In house) is it really a worthy competitor to the Chevy built SS? If that’s the case let’s hope someone like Lingenfelter starts building something "special" too.
Well you didn't look very hard. It's there:

So in essence the GT500 has a hand built engine and special chassis componets not used on any other regularly proiduced Mustang... Also isn't this is a Limited production car that the STARTING price exceeds that of a fully loaded Camaro SS.

I just don;t understand why some want to use the GT500 as the car to compare to the Camaro SS... They are not targeted to the same buyers...

The Mustang GT and Camaro SS are targeted at the same buyers and SHOULD be compaired...

I think that point has been made by you and others repeatedly. How about we just all agree that the SS and the GT500 should not be directly compared and call it a day.

The GT500 is a Ford Vehicle designed largely by Ford SVT, and branded with the Carrol Shelby name for marketing and retro fanfare.

The following are the actual "Shelby" Mustangs that start out as regular factory Mustang GTs and GT500s and get shipped to Vegas for modification at Shelby's facilities:

Shelby GT
Shelby GT-H
GT500 Super Snake
GT500 KR

http://www.ford.com/about-ford/news-...ild-2009-27929

Quoted from the link above:

"Each Shelby GT500KR begins life as a GT500, built at AutoAlliance International Inc., in Flat Rock, Mich. From there, the cars are shipped to the Shelby Automobile facility in Las Vegas, where a Ford Racing Performance Pack, exhaust system and short-throw shifter are installed. The GT500KR also is fitted with unique body, chassis and interior components. Every GT500KR will be hand customized and delivered to each customer in an enclosed transporter, just like the legendary Ford GT."
Thats what i get for opening my big mouth before confirming my answer. I thought the gt500 was also finished off at shelby headquarters.
