The only time I leave the nannies on is when it rains, especially when it hasn't rained for a while & the rain makes all the rubber & crap on the road slippery. I figure if I don't get stupid, I won't have to worry. I'm not a typical girly driver, I have no qualms about passing on a 2 lane & driving over 100 doesn't scare me. That said however, I haven't broke her rear wheels loose and I don't plan to any time soon. I guess I have control issues lol, I dont want her doing something without me saying it's ok lol. Paying attention, having patience is all part of smart driving.
Drivinf her is easy, Now I just need to figure out how to get her big fanny by a curb without connecting the tires to it or parking without scuffing her nose on the curb! No matter what I do with my seat I can't see where the nose begins cause it curves down or where the tires are under the flaired fenders.

You're right, proverbs actually, but it is also a theme in one of Aesop's fables (The Fighting ****s and the Eagle)...I just was trying to find a way to sum up his post without delving into religion...

Making a thread boasting about driving around with the nannies off in the rain and not getting getting into an accident? Then in the same post giving advice to people about how to drive safe????

Honestly, it's a feature GM added to the car that makes it safer...why would you drive around purposely without them? Especially if it could be slick out....just sayin

...because you want to? My favorite feature of the nannies on my SS is the on/off switch. I sure wish net nannies came equipped.

This'll be the first vehicle I own with such a thorough safety suite of "nannys". I've never had an accident due to rain...or even icy snow (anyone who lives up here can testify to the exponential rise is skill requirement on a snowy road) ANYWAYS....

I was saying that I've never been in an accident where loss of control was the cause *knocks on wood*. I believe it's 100% possible to drive a Camaro in less-than-perfect weather without incident...but since the "nannies" are there...I plan to leave them on...I don't see any real reason to take'em off on the street. But that's my .02

Yes, spun my '93 Toyota pickup 180 in the middle of the road while turning left hard and fast from stopped . Little 22RE 2.4L 4 banger with 280k miles, old tires that got replaced the next day. It can happen. Way more careful now.

I don't drive my 2SS on wet roads unless it rains while I'm out.

Nice, I was expecting to read something completely different.
Respect your car and accept responsibility if you do something stupid....what a concept!! I wish more people would think like this too.

In the rain, I'm just trying to get where I'm going, no need to turn anything off.

This reminds me of all the threads saying "I don't need winter tires."

It's great that nothing happened to you, but if something does, it's already too late.

All these 'nannies' do is give you a bigger window to correct a dangerous situation. If you find the fun you gain with having them off more beneficial than the safety benefits of the systems, then rock on.

One serious question: IF an accident was to happen, and they checked your black box and saw all the nannies were off, are there insurance ramifications?

As Im driving along in the rain... nannies off, you'll never guess what happened....

NOTHING! I made it safetly to work. No out of control hair raising events. No slamming into the barrier. No ass end around. NOTHING. You know why? Because I exercise these three important rules when driving a 400+ horsepower RWD car in the rain:

1. RESPECT, respect the power and the road conditions
2. COMMON SENSE, by slowing down and not driving like a bat out of hell
3. PAY ATTENTION, watch the cars infront, behind and beside me.

All too many times people blame everyone but themselves for crashing in the rsin with these things.

Yes, this is a tad smartass, but more a reminder as the temps cool and the weather goes sour, respect your car. If you do, they won't hurt you. They aren't wild untamed beasts. They actually handle very well in the rain but, yes, you act a fool and they will put you in the wall QUICK!

Be safe, happy travels!

God Bless ya -

........but there's one thing you forgot:

The unanticipated.........

Yes - Common Sense and Respect and 'visual scanning' are all crucial elements of great driving habits....... But even the most professional drivers have accidents.........

If I had a dollar for every enthusiast who thought they were a great driver - and yet lost control of their car or truck...........

The "nannies" are there for a reason. (and I hate the term 'nannies'.....) They're there because they can save even the best driver out there.

Don't take my word for it - talk to our chassis engineers -- and some professional drivers...........

(.....JR - in the words of Olympia Dukakis -- "...I love ya like my luggage...." -- I don't mean to belittle you or criticize you - but please understand that the world is full of bad drivers - and the scary part? Those who are the worst are the ones that think they're the best!.....so be careful of what you say!...the last thing we need is to have more people shutting off their Stabilitrak...)

Thanks Scott, I appriciate the kind words. I will clarify one thing... yes, I drive with safety controls off typically BUT I typically don't drive my car in the rain. This is the first time I turned it off in the rain because I was curious so maybe I was a little more "aware" of the situation.

Maybe if I was just being a typical unaware driver it would probably have been easy to get wild.

My point of the thread was NOT to boast about how good of a driver I am. I'd say I'm better than average but by no means great. It was simply to heighten peoples awareness of their car and the situation.
