MP3 playback using Auxiliary Jack

I know this is problem with a lot of cars that didn't have the connectivity package installed (mine included since its a 2010 1SS). Below is a short how-to guide I put on my Facebook account on how to get your MP3 player to play over the Camaro stereo system using an Auxiliary jack:

How to use the Auxiliary input for MP3 play back in the Camaro. 1. Buy a 6 foot Auxiliary cord from Best Buy. 2. Set your radio to Auxiliary. 3. Locate the Auxiliary jack in the center console and plug the cord into it. 4. Plug your MP3 player into the other side of the of cord. 5. Control the playback using the MP3 device. Not as good as USB but better than a $350 aftermarket part.

Isn't this kind of obvious? Plug in iPod... Play. I know you mean well by this so , thanks. But I assumed the point of this aux jack was for Mp3 players, and people.... Knew that.

You'd be surprised, seen the question many, many, many times on C5. I remember having to do similar inputs with tape decks not to long ago.

The real kick in the ***s was in 2010 you could only get the connectivity package on the 2LT and 2SS. So if you got anything else you were plain SOL if you didn't know how to use the auxiliary jack correctly. At least for 2011 you can get connectivity on anything 1LT or above.

Yep. Even the simplest things are too much for some people.

Shorter cords are rather hard to find.

You can buy the USB part for $150. I tried using the 3.5mm plug that comes standard and it just sucks to much having to open the center console to change songs, albums etc. Not to mention dangerous. If your the kind of person that enjoys shuffling music then it does work fine though.

Problem is you still have to shuffle even with the USB part put in because you still don't have steering wheel controls or in most cases associated blue tooth. A longer cord can be routed through the center console lid when its closed so you can have the MP3 player on your lap rather than just sitting in the console in a difficult to reach position.

Im not sure about your MP3 player but with iPod you control it via the radio. It shows the titles, artists etc. No need to touch the iPod. also When you add the USB you get bluetooth audio playback. Quality sucks though.

I use this: http://www.newpotatotech.com/TUNELIN...k_android.html

works well with my iPhone even though it says "android". They have an app that you can install but I skipped that and just use it with the reg iPod app. I have bluetooth built in to my Camaro but not the PDIM.
This works the exact same way and was half the price...made it really easy to install since our aux port is right next to a power jack, no more (visible) wires.

I've always done it this way. Way easier to find a song when you have a huge song library and/or a ton of playlists. I have a retractable aux cable that I bought from walmart, takes up little space and the cable isn't thick at all.

Actually it was an option on the 2010 1LT too... just not the LS or 1SS.
