Shifting in city driving puts you in the high RPM range where you burn more gas. For comparison my 1SS has a lifetime average of 16.3 MPG, the only reason is that the average speed is 31.5 MPH. In my DD I actually get over the EPA rating because I'm in the constant sweet spot of the rev band for fuel economy for a lifetime average of 49 MPH through 34,000 miles. Bottom line you won't see an improvement until you get more freeway in your driving schedule.
the majority of the time, I'm actually on the freeway...i do get and understand what your saying, which does lead me o the fact that, when i used to fill up like i said earlier, a full tank would be 300 miles to empty, now when i fill it up fully i can only get 270..im still pondering how i lost 30 miles in 3 weeks?

Its calculated based off your last fuel run, it changes as you go into the current one. Usually I'm seeing 300-330 as an estimate when I fill up. What is your commute like?

The next time you go to fill up, write down your actual mileage.
Drive normally on a tank of gas.
Then the next time you go to fill up, write down your new mileage.
Figure out how many miles you drove on that tank of gas.
Divide that number by how many gallons of fuel you put in the car.
Wow I must be old

Can always reset one of the two trip odometers at the first fill up ... eliminates one "calculation".

i don't drive it often but when i do, its to school, which i have to hop on the freeway in order to get to. i just want it to go back to 300 at least because it was actually saving me a lot of money compared to it constantly being on 270. i WISH i could get 330 like you. :(

so after doing some research on this and searching around here, i think i know the problems.
a. i do drive it a tad bit too fast (i know i know :( )
b. i do punch it off the line ALOT

when i fill it up tomorrow, I'm going to change both of those till i get back down to E or half a tank and see if my results differ...and i just realized my motor isn't even completely broken in yet.

bologna!! the only way to check fuel consumption is to see what the computer in the dash tells you! i can't believe you actually think "miles per gallon" refers to how many miles you've driven using so many gallons of gas. sheesh... old timers

LOLZ.

REALLY?

You completely fill the car up with gasoline.

You reset the ODO to 0.0

You drive around til whenever you want to stop... half a tank whatever.

You then completely fill up again.

Divide how many gallons you put into the car lets say 10 gallons.

Lets say you drove 200 miles.

You then got 20 miles per gallon on average.

What do you think the car just leaks gasoline when it isn't running?

Maybe some does evaporate a little and turn into fumes.... but not enough to throw off his numbers.

Sarcasm does not compute.
