If thats the case they have your information the second you rolled off the Chevrolet car lot. The fact that your GPS data is no longer logged has no bearing on your account information. That data is in there system forever, be it active subscriber or not.

Or maybe sent to emergency organizations to find out the statistics of 911 calls in a given area via On-Star. As stated via Rogue Leader they dont care who you are. Its all aggregated data to them.

So take the tin-foil hats off.
Thanks at least 1 person gets it.

That's why I just add people to the ignore list.. Then I don't have to read their dibble any longer.. Though, I never got to comment back in the other thread where I got "showed up" with the advanced degree comment.. It was cute, considering I have 5 of them and all were by the time I was 23 and all in Computer Science.

No you got showed up because you made a huge post about how your data can be tracked like you were talking to someone how doesn't know anything, when you just misinterpreted them.

Eh I don't even know why I bothered writing that, you've obviously put me on your ignore list because you can't have an intelligent conversation and instead make a comment about how peoples opinions are uneducated.

He wrote that to me, because of a huge diatribe he wrote to me like I was an idiot about how your data can be tracked, and when you delete stuff on your hard drive its not really gone etc. I'll admit it I did say that, because I don't like being spoken to like I'm an idiot by some guy on a message board because my opinion is different than his.

On a serious note... I am glad they changed it.

It's often the scenario of .. let's see what we can get away with. Hmm... they didn't like that. Plan B it is.
That war room would be AWESOME

Exactly. The tin-foil-hat-folks need to argue one thing at a time. First they're afraid that OnStar is "tracking" them and watching their every move.

Then, when us more reasonable folks explain that OnStar is a reactive program, not a preventative program, they start screaming that OnStar is going to start giving their information to pharmaceutical companies who will badger them about new and improved ED treatments.

OnStar doesn't track anyone. If you're in an accident, the module in your car contacts the satellite and lets OnStar know where you are to send help. If your car gets stolen, law enforcement has to call OnStar in order for OnStar to be authorized to locate the vehicle. I believe OnStar also has to have the owners authorization before law enforcement can begin communicating with OnStar. I don't have any experience with this, though, as I have never had an OnStar equipped vehicle stolen.

OnStar cannot legally do anything to your car without authorization from the owner. Unlock doors, remote start, diagnostics, etc. are all user authorized.

If you're that seriously concerned about your information being hacked off of OnStar's servers, then why did you buy an OnStar equipped (GM) vehicle? Seems like a pointless argument in that sense.

Thats the whole point every1 is arguing... You keep saying "legally" on star cant do this... etc. What we're saying is what about the things that laws aren't wrote to protect. What about them getting away with anything they can that isn't in the public eye or deemed "illegal". I understand it is all a $ game to them and they aren't monitoring us personally but why should they make $ off monitoring any of us and our habits? Especially if it can be sold to law enforcement to further invade our privacy... Such as setting up speed traps or checkpoints to make even more $ off of us. We are being USED by every organization possible for their own gain! THAT IS THE PROBLEM

No I can't ,but I'm not the one making definitive statements that would suggest that you have some inside information or that you somehow you know what you state is a fact. That's why I asked you the questions I did.

What things are they doing that you think are illegal?

You say, "they aren't monitoring us personally," but then you turn around and try to say that they are making money off of monitoring us... I don't think there's a smilie to illustrate my complete look of bewilderment right now.

And I'm not the one making definitive accusations of an organization invading subscriber's privacy

The original accusation that was made was that OnStar is invading people's privacy. And so far, I haven't seen any proof that this is going on. So, right now, it's just a conspiracy theory.
