If you're talking 05-07 Vette, get the Camaro SS. The LS2 vettes are nice, but the LS3 versions are where it's at. And I'd only consider a vette if it had the Z51 package as well as the LS3.

+1...get the Vette if it's a 2008 or newer. Also make sur eit's the 3LT or 4LT trim so you get the HUD, memory, bose, etc. If it's an 05 or 06, stay away. 2007 was ok, but the LS3 came in 08.

the older C6 manuals had to be put in reverse - to stop the battery draw from the car's computers, if I remember correctly...This was resolved in 2007...Steering, hp gains, and a slightly better shift starting in 2008....not to mention the neat carbon fiber trim!

Tough call indeed. My dealership has a CGM 09 sitting in their showroom that made my balls boil. Sticker was 47, but something tells me I could get it much closer to 40....not too far off from the 38 k I am shelling out for the Camaro......

Sellin Chevy's since '06

2008+ corvettes all got onstar standard, xm sat radio, aux plug in for ipod(unless you opt for nav), very underrated LS3, standard vettes got the TR6060, better rack&pinion, optional NPP(dual-mode exhaust/ Z06 catback) etc etc. 05-07s had the true rated LS2 and if you want automatic completely rule out the prehistoric 05 with the 4spd auto. A vette will out handle, out brake, and out accelerate a Camaro no prob. The Corvette is a super car bargain of a lifetime. 07 and newer have the 5yr/100K powertrain warranty which is fully transferable from owner to owner.

Definately would want the z51 suspension. I think I need to drive a 2008+, see and feel the difference myself.

I am #1 on a CGM 2SS/RS at my dealer. I faced the same decisions you are right now. I gave into my weakness on Feb 2nd and bot a 2009 CGM C6 manual with Z51 package. I haven't looked back. It is an incredible car, not to mention beautiful. I will cancel my 2SS when the dealer calls and says it is in. My intentions are now to wait for the vert to come out in a couple years and get it for my wife.

I love the Corvette...always have. The C6 is just sex on wheels, but I wouldn't choose it over the Camaro.
First of all if the Camaro isn't practical for a daily driver then the Corvette is almost downright irresponsible. You only have two seats. You sit so much lower to the ground than most of the cars around you are creating a safety issue. The benifits of faster performance is almost negligable on the streets...when will you take advantage of that? The C6 may or may not become a legend, but I'm guessing not since it's more of an evolution of the not so exciting C5...which was an extension of the ackward C4. The 2010 Camaro is an instant classic. The Camaro community is going to be huge. Aftermarket support will be off the charts compared to the Corvette. It's arguable I know, but the Camaro has the superior interior. It has a nicer ambience than the Corvette and you will have more room which in a long drive is very nice. Small cockpits in my experience tend to get uncomfortable. These are all my opinions and of course some could feel the exact opposite, but being I'm a huge Corvette fan myself this isn't Camaro fanboy speak.

I really want the Camaro SS, it's not going to be my everyday driver. But I don't know how long I can wait as I don't have an order in yet, local dealers not very helpful, so I am considering a used Corvette as a toy because I NEED A SPORTS CAR!

Safety is a concern in the vette. That is why you should at least get a 2lt or 3lt because it has the side impact air bags. The 1lt does not have those. There is nothing wrong with an 05 or 06 corvette. My camaro is 34180, so I have a hard time justifying spending 10k more for a vette. IMO, its not worth it to me. In a year, the new camaro will be everywhere just like the corvette.

take the c6 as long as you are GUARENTEED to buy yourself a convertible next year. Then you will have hype with the convert, and get a vette. That is a win-win squared in my books

The 5th gen Camaro is a NEW CAR. It WILL get more attention and compliments than your used C6. Sorry bud, but until the hype dies down, it's true. Corvettes have been around forever, and I for one am no longer gawking at them when I see them. It's just another Corvette. Not even a Z06. Not everyone is looking for a track car. The Corvette is much less a daily driver, or daily driver capable, than the Camaro. Once the Camaro is out for its first year, the "new" factor will have died down some. He'll be missing out on this once in a lifetime chance to own something most people haven't even seen. Those used C6's will still be around after the Camaro's debut. |
