Well the question from me is, how many actually have holes on their top and how many have just rub marks?

I had rub marks on both sides, and a serious dent in the top from a pinch point on the drivers side, but it didn't go all the way through.
My top has been replaced and all is well now.

Latest update: Gm Cust Svc said the dealer says the tops "within spec" so they won't fix anything until there's signs of water leakage... and according to the dealership- the seat is my fault from the stereo install in May... so, according to them, im S.O.L. speechless.

Jeff...PMd you this morn

What difference does it make! Serious rub spots that look like ass or holes...it should not happen.

I have rub marks on either side plus rubs on the ribs on top plus some pinching towards the front but no holes yet. I think my pictures are posted on the first page of this thread.

My pinch marks are about to become holes. Every time I look at it I see more frayed threads showing in those spots. I'm torn between going to the dealer that sold me the car & going to Rodger's since I now know they actually know how to replace the top without issues. I want to get it done before I have to put her away for the winter.

I don't know your other dealer, TiffBiff but my vote is for Rodgers, as if I read right they have a Camaro vert top trained tech trained by the top mfr, also my buying experience from them was outstanding. Though that may not relate exactly, imho it bodes well.

If I were within a few hours driving distance of Rodgers I'd bring it there. Actually, if I start having issues - even living 500 miles away - I'd think of bringing it there, based on my buying experience with Becky. She cares, and if her dealership couldn't fix it or do it right then I thnk no others could. Imho of course.

Yep. Should I ever feel hinky about my dealers ability to handle top issues I will make the road trip to have Becky's shop deal with it.

Well, as long as it is before the end of October and after April 1st.

Would you put up with scratch marks on your windows every time you put them up or down ? Or would you wait till the window broke before you got it fixed ??
And my answer to your question is, No there were no holes yet, but there was fraying of the cloth on the passenger side. I didn't feel like waiting for a hole to form so water could come through. This is not normal for a convertible !

As an engineer with past experience on convertibles, let me point out some general info about wear marks. Wear marks require 2 components: motion and squeezing. Motion is inevitable because when the top is down, links are bouncing around all over. Squeezing is not inherently present in all convertible tops.

Wear marks can manifest 3 ways: 1) not at all 2) wear that doesn't progress to a hole or 3) wear that progresses to a hole. When you see wear that doesn't progress to a hole on one top, it probably means that with build (and/or use) variation other tops will progress to a hole. And when you see it before 25% of your test schedule, it's highly unlikely you will see the wear mark not become a hole unless you change something.

Man I hope your kidding with that statement. To me it's nothing but rude and disrespectful. I'm sorry ,but I've own a lot of convertibles in my day and some sucked and some didn't. It looks to me with all the complaints you read about that right now ,the new Camaro's tops just plain sucks like or not. I'm sure they will fix it ,but it's a shame that the public seems to be used for R&D with many of the products we buy these days. Sorry for the rant ,but It bugs me when I see someone making lite of a very serious problem with some very expensive cars that shouldn't have this type of problem.

That's fortunately...not completely true. Remember what the internet does when you get a faction of extremely picky, extremely vocal enthusiasts together in the same bandwidth...facts and perceptions tend to get distorted...

The convertible top, is not seeing nearly as many warranty claims as one would expect from reading this thread - or appropriate, and immediate action would be taken...as has been done in the past with production issues (including the tonneau cover)

I don't agree that one should have to settle for a rubbed-through top, for instance. By all means, please go to your dealers and get any problems fixed asap - you deserve nothing less. But I also don't believe the problem(s) are as widespread as it seems on here.

Granted and I'll give that one. I know from my business that you only hear the bad stuff ,but it's still no reason to make a comment like that when these people are having real problems that isn't too tough to see. I've seen the issue in person ,and it looks much worse in person than on a screen. If it was mine I would be upset too. You have to also remember that most of these cars have very low miles on them. Believe me I don't want these cars to have problems no more than the people running this site ,but I'm not going to dismiss them either as someone being overly picky or it's a convertible; that's the way the are. Come on guys you know better than that.
