well i feel it is american because it not taken from an already existing vehicle(gto). this is a totally new car and it has alot of history in it which screams american. the recent gto had no history to it.

sure it did... the Monaro had been out for years when they slapped some Pontiac badges on it

j/k... in all seriousness, you are correct... but I really did like the LS2 GTOs... they were nice cars and could run high 12s from the factory with some tuning to get rid of torque management and the right driver in the car

hey guys i've been watching this post while at work but until after a hot shower my personal answer came.

Personally i'm Mexican American...awaiting my camaro, and so this is my humble answer. to me this isnt of who or where its built...to me its about who owns it, to me this will be my mexican american camaro.

to me its this simple...to others it may not be...it seems this thread is going towards in a "i dont want it build there" tube

adding to my statement...suppose i wanted my camaro to be mexican??? :P now i'm just messin with ya's!!

I think he was asking which car culture most appears in the Camaro. He wasn't sure if it fit the American standard. See my post above.

I've only quickly reviewed this thread, so if I'm missing something, I apologize.

My feeling is, the Camaro will always be perceived, rightfully so, as an American Muscle Car. If it's built in Canada, tested in Australia, etc., doesn't change the fact that the Camaro has been and always will be an important, and significant part of American Muscle Car history.

I think thats the problem, the car has always been an iconic American car, and so to have it outsourced to such a degree will not be welcomed by some

That's just the thing to me. Why it doesn't bother me as much...all the countrys that have anything important to say about Camaro(Oz, USA, Canada) are all very much alike. (in general - don't read into that) So I don't consider it outsourcing. I consider it collaborative thinking.

True. That's just a reality of todays business economics.

Speaking for myself, I'll accept a little "foreign" influence in order to have the Camaro back. Seeing 'Chevrolet' and 'Camaro' is all I need.

Canada is nothing like America. How? Well, we're not Americans. We are Canadians, see the difference?

Let's just call it North American muscle or if you want to include the Aussie's, call it former British colony muscle...

Seriously tho, regardless of where its made or engineered the Camaro will always be an American car. And I think that is where it draws its appeal from. I wouldn't want to own the Camaro if it were considered anything but a true American muscle car. Don't get me wrong, I'm proud the car will be manufactured on Canadian soil, but my attraction to it is based purely on my association of the name 'Camaro' with its bad*ss American muscle car appeal.

PS...I always thought the Independent Rear Suspension on the 5th gen. would bring up this sort of questioning of the Camaro's 'American' muscle car status too...
