Don't get me wrong, i'm not contradicting your children's intelligence. I'm just saying that they didn't receive valedictorian spots with a 4.0. By the way sarcastic name calling and name calling in general are never effective ways get your point across.

You can't get your point across by making statements of fact regarding something you know absolutely nothing about either. It makes you look purposely obtuse. Even your opinion on the matter is meaningless.

Their school has a 4.0 scale. There's no 4.1, 4.2, or 4.anything except a 4.0. Anything but straight A's will get you less than a 4.0. Do you get it now?

There are also 3 types of diplomas: general, core-40, and honors. You have to be in the honors curriculum to be a valedictorian.

Just because your school may have a different scale has no bearing on the scale that their school has.

And I'm pretty sure I know whether or not the graduation program and local newspaper identified them as valedictorians.

Hopefully you're up to speed now.

You missed the point COMPLETELY! I SAID.... IF you had purchased the V6 with your own money... that YOU worked your ass off for... You would be happy with the V6 and although the SS would be something to aspire to, you would have a more realistic view of what it takes to trade up. The whole point of the message was that because you were handed the keys to a new car, as a "gift", you don't truely appreciate the work it takes to get one... You wanting to upgrade at your age to more horsepower than you could ever use proves that.

4.0 was the highest GPA at my school from which I graduated in 2001. Just sayin'. A lot of smaller schools still use that system.

No i understand that 4.0 is the highest because my school used the same grade scale, but what i'm saying is you can always go above and beyond. For example, a 4.0 student is someone that does all their work perfectly every time (very smart). But they could be over achievers and get more. I don't know if you guys know what AP is but AP stands for Advanced Placement, these classes also fall inline with college prep courses. Students in Advanced Placement classes have the opportunity to receive higher than a 4.0 because they work harder than other 4.0 students. Remember, i'm referring to only public schools here. Also, i may be mistake on this but wouldn't the size of the school not matter? Since after all, in order for public schools to be funded they have to be the same or very close to every other school within that state.

I mean no disrespect to anyone and am not trying to knock down 4.0 students, it is indeed a tremendous accomplishment.

See my note above about the 3 different diplomas. That's similar to your AP classes. However, to reiterate, it is IMPOSSIBLE at my kids school for ANYONE to get above a 4.0. And yes, it's a public school.

So, holster the gun. My kids were both valedictorians with a 4.0 in the honors program. You opinion about something you don't fully understand doesn't change that fact.

The fact that you have to convince your dad make this thread null. No matter what our opinions are, they ultimately won't matter.

I am aware of what AP is. It was not offered at my school so I took college classes my senior year instead. Even then my GPA was only a 4.0. That was the best you could do. That's it and that's all. I went beyond above and beyond; you're kind of implying that someone in my position could have done better than a 4.0 when not all schools offer AP classes and so it was not possible. Trust me, when your graduating class is 40, the size of the school matters as far as funding, AP, and even sports. We only had football, baseball and basketball...

I'd like to start by saying that i apologize if what i said came off as condescending or rude. I am obviously in the wrong here, i apologize. I was under the assumption that all schools offered AP classes if they were a state sponsored school. Here in the Bay area we don't have schools hat small so I didn't really account for them. I apologize to you and the other person i was talking to.

No problem. I was stuck in a very small, rural school in Arkansas after my family moved away from Tulsa when I was in 6th grade. My own personal nightmare.

It's all good. I appreciate the apology and I apologize as well for getting a little testy about it.
