It should be as obvious as a inflamed pimple.....that consumers have already begun to dissect the flaws in manufactors standardizing products which are marketed under the assumption that no one notice ........... the prices aren't the same. The principle that value be established in the recognizable visual uniqueness of a product, including automobiles has a long standing tradition of continued success ................. GM sat idily on its laurels as the once pale frame work of its pony car platform faded from the competitive market place, notably for nearly a decade, while the blue oval gang raced into the sunset.............the validity in the comparo lies there. Its also worthy of mention, there are long standing loyal consumers amongst us whose viewpoint's not be discarded like a grain of salt by those deriving their 21st century livelyhood's ........ Aveo is dead, replaced by Sonic (still Aveo in overseas markets).

Your argument is invalid. Bottom line: The new wheel is an improvement. By the way, if you think Ford doesn't use corporate steering wheels/parts or rebadges cars, you're delusional.

To the whole reusing platforms, yeah it is a cost cutting measure but every car manufacturer does it in some way or another. Chevy uses the LS3 in both the Camaro SS and Corvette. The Camaro's platform is the same as the Holden Commodore and the Pontiac G8 was a rebadged Commodore. As pointed out, the Cobalt has the same steering wheel as the Corvette. If you think that Chevrolet is any better than Ford or Dodge then you must live in Magical Unicorn Fairy Land, where everyone loves each other and companies care about the consumer. First and foremost companies care about profit, that is the whole point of a company. You don't go into business to loose money by any means. The reason that companies don't make cars that are 100% identical is because having one model doesn't make any sense and anyone with a brain would understand that. Using a steering wheel that is the same is different from using the same body panels. BMW's cars all follow a similar style both inside and outside, they still sell. Oh and the reason the steering wheel we changed is because the old one is a piece of crap. Ergonomicly it is horrible, the buttons are placed in a horrible, horrible way and it's not a good steering wheel for any form of performance driving. I'm glad they changed it because after driving my sisters GT500 or my 350Z the flaws of the 10-11 steering wheel really show. Every company does it and don't try to act like they don't. |

What is with people who like the interior of the mustang. It is horrible, I mean cheap looking and horrible. Have you seen the shifting nob. I can't believe people actually like it. I was looking in one the other day and I thought it was ugly. It really does look like a crappy toy on the inside and out. Everyone loves my car. I get called out everywhere I go. I have dreadlocks down to my ass and I always get stopped everywhere for pictures and such, but this car really does take the attention away from it. I love it!

It you guys honestly believe that anyone would believe GM had enough time to collect and collate mounds of extraordinary evidence of steering wheel complaints from a near infant aged market purchasing a particular model car, your assumptions that it's believable are blindly formulated. If not, please explain how long it takes from the time an idea "of change for the better" .........becomes a thought, to the point it is validated ( Using the science of function and safety"), through the entire production process (engineering, retooling, material acquatition, and machining) and finally is made available to the consumer in the products being sold...................surely not over night, and two model years of automobiles introduction, is nearly overnight. It appears all the bantering offered by those speaking for GM's reasoning in open forum here is..........The original steering wheel was deemed a failure by GM long before it ever hit dealers inventories. The planning process for the replacement wheel, began...........long before the first original one was ever installed in a Camaro on the assembly line........ It was neccessary to use all the old ones up ( Those aforementioned Crappy One's) that had been contracted for from the supplier as well those in the production process and GM on hand inventory. GM hadn't any problem admittingly using inferior products and releasing them into the marketplace........ Finally....................whether or not the new wheel is supposively more comfortable and user friendly, I hope GM canned everyone on the original steering wheel design team, as mentioned by someone official earlier........." form over function", failed. More importantly yesterday failures......are tommorrows consumers costs. |

Enthusiasts make up a very small percentange of the buying market, due to that car manufactures are not out to please the enthusiasts, they are out to please the people that will buy the cars. It's a sad reality but it's also the reason so many V6 Camaro's are sold instead of SS's and ZL1's. The enthusiasts buy, not always I mind you, the more expensive models. It's the same reason there isn't a performance engine in the V6's or a performance package for the V6. My point with all that is Chevy isn't out to please the people that loved the steering wheel (enthusiasts), they are out to please the people that will buy the car (average consumers) the people that buy the car because it's new, not because it's a Camaro. |
