Exhaust/Muffler Delete, decisions decisions!

So I'm in the process of doing my research on what kind of system I might eventually want to put on my SS. BUT, having JUST got it 9 days ago, I'm trying to keep myself budgeted and not go too crazy on mods right off the bat. I want to increase performance - duh - but also sound, so thought I'd get some opinions on doing a simple muffler delete for the time being, and then a full exhaust system later? Or... well, I can't decide :face palm:

I KNOW you all have plenty of opinions and are DYING to share them hehehe

You are better off getting a muffler delete from a local muffler shop. Thats what I did. The link you posted is the same thing but for twice the price. Just have the shop cut off your mufflers and replace them with pipes and weld the stock tips back on. I paid $150.

I did the same thing in NorCal for the same price. Any skilled muffler tech should have no problems with this.

That's what I did. I drove straight from the dealer to the muffler shop. Got the muffler delete. Ran with that for almost a year until I had the money for headers/tune/full exhaust. You should only have to spend around $100-$150 for a muffler delete (some have even been able to do it cheaper) so if for some reason you don't like it you won't be out much money.

The ones that I linked above are what I'm looking at getting - but getting them from a fellow C5 member who had them installed for like 2 days before changing out to something else - he has 4" tips on his. So I wouldn't be getting that set up for full price.

If I do the muffler delete I'd probably want slightly bigger tips than stock, and I'd like to leave the muffler and tips in tact once I take them off.

I'm calling up a local guy a friend referred me to to see how much he'd charge to do the muffler delete. When you guys went in, did you already have the pipe or did they do the removal and make and bend the pipe for you?

Just called the store my friend recommended me to, and they told me that it would be $150 to do the muffler delete or around there assuming they could use the stock tips. So I asked what it would cost if I had all the piping and parts I wanted to replace it with - said the same price... O.o Uhm, maybe it's just me but if I'm paying 150 for them to remove my mufflers, and use their own piping, wouldn't it be cheaper if all I'm asking them to do is cut off my mufflers and weld on the new ones? >.> maybe i'm crazy......

There is bending and welding involved, plus shop time. That's mostly what they are charging for. The pipe itself isn't that expensive, based on their costs.
