Cost ya like 60bucks or so.

Some days you can go in and ask for a low number, but it will depend on how many they have left open from the last time they purged the numbers in the system or how good a mood the employee is that you are dealing with.

The really low numbers are kept in holding at DMV. They use them for auction to raise money for the Dept for obvious reasons. Or they keep them as a prize for one of their promotions---such as when they came out with the centennial tags. They had four 4 digit tags saved for drawings during that promotion.

Actually you can get a black tag with stainless steel numbers up to 200,000. All the black tags are more like a $100 last time I checked.

You sure about that number? My title clerk told me it was like 86k or less. I could be wrong it was a few yrs ago though. If you let 200k out it kinda takes away from the feel of it.

There are two different types of black tags...the porcelain and the stainless steel. To get a porcelain tag you have to have a number that is 5 digits or less. The stainless you can get if you have a number lower than 200000. The stainless say Delaware across the top, the porcelain ones just have DEL across the top.

Yeah, I am sure, here's the actual order form for the tags thru the DE historical society.

The ones I have are probably worth anywhere from 4 to 7 thousand. The one will hurt my feelings though because I actually got ahold of the C tag with my badge number.

P.S. in the same auction I mentioned above they also sold a "dead" original #6 plate from back in the 1940's which sold for $38,000.00 now talk about dumb that much money and no rights to use it????
4-7 THOUSAND, HMM WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

Just remember to put it on retainer if you don't buy the jeep before you get rid of the 4th gen...

Those are awesome. PA has the black DARE tags with white letters too. I'm in MD now, tho & I have a SW coupe on the way... like to keep it all black/white but MD switched to a red, white & blue War of 1812 Commemorative as their standard plate. Anyone know of any better options on MD tags?

Here is the hint she gave me today.... the next purge of numbers is supposed to be 11/01/11 so contact DMV title section on that date probably in person would be best....she doesn't have any tags right now... DMV is going to advertise some kind of promotion where you can get the tag but have to buy the black/white or black/stainless tag that day in order to get the tag. Sounds like she won't have any for me to save you til that promotion is over with. I had to ask today for another friend who wanted a low number.

Independent of this thread, I happened to check the dmv site last week and saw that they had 5-digits left. Called them up on Thursday and was knocking on the door of the New Castle DMV Friday morning....

Got my 5-digit!!!! Its 69-513. Best part- my birthday is 5/13 so its pretty cool. Just waiting for my black and white plate to come in the mail.

SILVERHAWK, do you recommend getting the frame to protect the edges, or is it unnecessary?

Also, congrats Scotty and welcome to DE. I just moved here in June and am loving it so far.

Thanks, you too man. Living in an apartment with no garage so i figured (correctly, I would say) that SIM would stay looking the cleanest for the longest. Are you up in New Castle County?
