need advice on coilover install
Dear friends i just got me pfadt coil over kit. I decided to get brave and install it solo.. I did the fronts, but I see that I need a bushing remover of some sort for the rear stock rear coil over. Can anyone tell me tool that is and where I can find it...your help is much appreciated. (The directions say to remove the stock bushing near the end of the shaft where it meet the top chassis)

Hey there. The process can be a little tricky the first time you do it, but not impossible with hand tools. here are a couple threads which may help you:
Avalnch Thread using block of wood, and washer + nut as a drift You could also cut it out using a sawzall or other cutting tool, a couple strategic cuts in the shape of a pie wedge should remove enough material that the bushing will collapse on it's self. Just be careful not to nick or cut into the upper mount it's self. Ultimately if you're having a really tough time with it the entire process is really simple with a press. Take it down to your local machine shop and they should have the bushings removed for you in about 15 minutes. If you have any other issues let us know! We're here to help. |

With our custom rear upper mount system you will remove the bushing in the rear upper mount. What we replace that rubber bushing with is basically a super durable spherical bearing that's captured by 2 retaining plates that bolt with 5 set screws into each other and sandwich the metal of the upper mount.

Well your best option if you're doing it by yourself is either with a press, or a trip to Lowes and come up with something like what Avalanch did. Buy a long bolt, washer, nut, and block of wood. Drill a hole in the wood so you have something to thread the bolt through. Once the bolt is through both the wood and the bushing begin to tighten the bolt until it pulls the bolt head and washer through the under side of the upper mount, taking your rubber bushing along with it. Past that the correct tool is a press.
If you get stuck with it just look up machine shops in your area on Google. Even the most modestly of equipped shops will be able to get that bushing out for you really quickly. |
