ok, I agree with that. Well explained, and explained that way It makes sense to me.
I don't think either crowd should bash on another for their determination of quality of ownership rights.
Suffice it to say that this opinion thread is of two trains of thought and there is no correct answer.

Good point there - and to each his own. Neither side will never fully understand the other’s opinion and both will view the other as ‘wasting’ the car. The ‘garage queen’ people will see the ‘daily drivers’ as ruining the condition of the car and the ‘daily drivers’ will see the ‘garage queen’ people as wasting it by letting it sit. Both parties believe that they personally are doing the best thing for the car and can give real, justifiable reasons as to why. There are those who will drive the wheels off of a car, those who will keep it in a climate controlled bubble, and every combination between. Arguing it is almost like arguing politics or religion.

I, like many people looking at ZL1, fall somewhere in between - I have a daily driver for the snow, kids, dogs, and groceries, but I’m not buying the car to let it sit either.

Local dealership.

Try it.

Edit: My ZL1 will be a daily driver except on days with dust storms or high likelihood of hail. I know how to slow down if the roads get wet. (That seldom happens in El Paso, though.)

The SLP ZL1 is probably not very street friendly because of the 750 HP built engine. The 2012 will be more tamed with all of the different drive modes and MRC and PTM for the track.

Say what you want but my 2012 ZL will be in the garage being preserved.

Agreed. It's just a car.
I don't drive my SS in the winter, but that's because it's lowered and has thousands of dollars of upgrades strictly for performance so useless on ice and snow.
But, as far as driving daily in the summer I don't see why not.
Vehicles are transportations devices that's all, some are even better for our entertainment (track days, racing, etc...), but to let it sit in the garage and massage it daily is rediculous.
Drive the thing and drive it hard, worst case scenario it'll break that's all.

Mine will be driven every day....

down to the mailbox and then back.

It will sleep in the winters but it will go out for lengthier drives when the weather is nice.

I wouldn't use a zl1 as a daily driver personally because daily drivers have to go through constant use, probable exposure to the sun, and if you go shopping then there's the parking lot hazards (dings, shopping carts) that can ruin your day.

This will be a car that I would want to look its best at all times.

Daily driver for me

And just because a car is driven every day doesn't automatically mean it will look any worse than a garage queen!

Half the fun for me is keeping it looking like its just left the showroom

New exercise regimen: Walking from the empty side of the parking lot.

I love the great Ring time, but that doesn't mean it's going to cost almost as much as a Corvette Grand Sport.
When people ask how much my car was, I tell them what it cost with all the options I ordered and TT&L included, just a hair under $45k ( it was actually $44,739.21 out the door after an $1,300 college student discount). So, with a 2SS convertible base price of $39,650 a car spec'ed out exactly like mine would cost $6,390 more (minus the discount I got) out the door.

I don't know how cheap you think the ZL1 is going to be, but I'm guessing mid to low 50s base price. Let's say $52,500 base price. After it being optioned out how I would like and TT&L, it is completly reasonable that the price will go up about $7k, putting it a hair under $60k out the door. I have never cared what base price of a car is unless you can actually drive it off the showroom floor with just paying that and nothing else.

When it's all said and done you will be hard pressed to find any ZL1 that was taken home for much less than $60k out the door.

Hello!!! If you can afford a 60k sportscar, you can also afford a daily driver.
This is the WRONG car for a daily driver. Don't get me wrong..I'll be driving mine, but not to work to park in a gravel parking lot and collect door dings, thats just retarded. No I'll take it out regularly to stretch its legs whenever I can. This car is like fine wine, not cheap beer.
It's not a question about being able to afford another car to daily drive. I have a couple other cars to chose from for my daily commute, but I still drive Ginger everyday (unless I plan on having more than 3 people in tow or I'm going to haul something, in which case The Beast comes out).
I now we all love our Camaros, but in the end they are still just cars.

Mine will be daily driver for the spring, summer, and fall seasons for me. I've got a Cobalt for the winters that has been very well taken care of. I have no preconceptions that it's an improper vehicle to drive every day. If ZR1, and CTS-V is any indication, it should be very docile until you hit it.

I will keep it as spotless as possible because I care about my most prized possession...but these cars were meant to be driven, and in my very humble opinion, that's what I intend to do. I think garage queening such a great vehicle is a bit of a shame, but it's understandable given that some people have the means to do so.

Whatever, I say. I'm going to DD it...others might not. Doesn't change the fun I'm going to have.
