Bang for the buck

Im new to the forum. I was listening to the talks about what car is better. The Camaro or the 392 SRT8 challenger.

I am no expert on any vec but I will tell you I have owned the 2004 supercharged cobra the 2010 dodge charger the 2006 c6 and 392 challenger.

I spend weeks at a time at the track drag racing cars and bikes. If your looking for a car to drag race the cobra will walk all over the camaro with a hesitation.

You can add all your mods this and that but what happens in the end, your adding headaches when you start modifying your daily drive car.

Also everyone keeps comparing the 392 to the camaro and the mustang. Look at it like this, if you want a car that Five adults can ride in for over 8 hours and walk at the end of the trip you better buy a 392 challenger. It has the performance you all are looking for in a everyday driving car with a beautiful interior and exterior body. Beautiful comfortable seats, leg room and awesome nav system. A better sounding stereo system than cam, and stang. If your says the camaro interior dont look cheap your fooling yourself. At the end of the day its your money but dont sell yourself short cause a couch potato tells you a car is better. DRIVE a 392 for yourself and you will be suprised

I didn't read all post in this thread but for the money you could get a new ZL1.....right?

The Challenger is slower but offers more room than the Camaro. I looked at all three American Muscle Cars and went with the SS cause I got a great deal.

The Mustang feels stronger but wasn't as comfortable.
The SRT8 Challenger looks great, was comfortable, and nicely equipped, but didn't feel as fast.
The SS is a very nice car and I got it for a great price so i bought it.

No, you will be looking at at least a 5-6k difference between a base SRT8 and ZL1. Also if you drove the old 6.1 SRT it is not nearly as quick as the 11-12 SRT8s which have run as quick as 12.2 bone stock. SRT splits the difference between the SS and ZL1 in price and performance and comes standard with more goodies than is even optional on the SS (tocuh screen stereo with 30GB HD, push bottun start, SRT specific seats, SRT specific flat bottom heated steering wheel, lgihtweight alcoa wheels, electronic multimode suspension, etc, etc.

In his original post he said he was looking at a 2010 SRT8 so that's what I based my comparison on.

I didn't read the whole thread but I think it would come down to whether your going to mod and give up the warranty. If you are going to mod in a way that affects the warranty then a new SS or GT is the way to go. A new SS or GT will be as good or better in pretty much every way over a 392 SRT with just a tune, CAI and LT headers. The GT needs even less with just a tune and off road h/x pipe. More mods than these just seperates them further. Even with the mods both of these cars can be had for as much as 5-10k less than the SRT. If you are going to keep the warranty then the SRT 392 is a beast and you should seriously consider it.

Now that the tune is out for the SRTs i wouldn't be so quick to count them out when it comes to modifying, people are seeing good gain with just the tune and there wre some in the 11s with just minor mods before a tune was even available. The SRT even handles well enough now to give the other 2 a run in the twisties with the new multimode suspension (Bilstien, similar to the optional one on the GT500),. Also a SRT8 is basically loaded stock, a base Camaro or Mustang is not, once you load them up to similar levels you are at maybe 2k difference. Basically, they are all good, just depends on what you are looking for.
