What was the story behind GM not lighting the dash after wiring it to do so?

Not from GM, but you can do this mod on your own if you have the patience and skill.

I recall FBODFATHER or someone from GM saying that it allowed you to see behind the panel and they did not like that too much. Just like when we do it now you can see the gap. I think it should have been designed more like the doors for it to work properly. Modify the mold for the dash a little and your set... but oh well it's an easy enough mod.

We did not get pricing today, as hoped. Hopefully tomorrow. Keep an eye on this thread in the marketplace.

I have the light tube and LEDs. Is there a way to mount the tube so that the gap is non existent? For that matter, can the top of the dash panel be sanded and the light tube go behind them like in the doors?

Yes that is the old way of doing it but you need to dremel the 2 high mounting posts so the light pipe can go further down to allow the trim to site flat on the dash, If your going to sand the top of the trim remember to wet sand with 220 grit then 400 and last 1,000 so its shiny.

If I go that way, I would need to drill part of the dash in order to get it to press back into place, right?

Follow post 3 or 4 of this thread?

If you haven't seen the gap in person, you should try doing it the way I did (with the gap, no sanding or drilling). I doubt you'll mind/notice the gap. If you do, you can always do the sanding and dremeling after. The gap on the left of the steering wheel may need work though, I'm just too lazy to do it.
