Oh I would love to buy a car near base. I just don't know if I'll be anywhere near home. I'm not sure if I'll be even allowed to have a car on base. I'm not sure how much money I'll have saved up. People tell me different things. People told me I won't have any money to save and that fantasizing about a camaro is stupid. That kinda sucked. I have friends that have their parents buying them a car and my parents honestly can't afford to buy me a car. So it sucked to hear that I wouldn't be able to save money for a car. But someone here is telling me otherwise. All I know is that I'm gonna do whatever it takes to save enough money to get that camaro lol

Hi I'm stationed at camp Pendelton with 16 yrs in and also an intel chief and can tell you that most of the info is pm me and I will give you the real truth. One thing is I would agree on is waiting to get to your first duty stationed before thinking about a new car. Too much moving around to have to worry about your car. I can give you my cell and we can discuss the truth about all this...

Everything good comes with time. Be patient. I'm 24 and growing up as a kid I had a friend of mine that had a 69 camaro and I always looked up to him because he was knowledgeable and we always worked on his car together. As I got older I always wanted to save to get a 69 camaro and build it like my friend did. I have had several opportunities to do just that. When the fifth gen came out I was still not financially stabile enough to just go and get myself a new 2ss/rs. Some years later and pain and learning I now am secure enough to be comfortable with having a car that is equal if not better than my friends 69. The irony is now he is the one who is jealous of me. Work hard and keep your head up and you will get what you want. Give it time.

Somebody else posted not to buy near a base...unless I read it wrong.

Edit: it was evil35th that said it. I am curious as to why you wouldn't want to.

Most of the used car lot near bases pray on young service members and they get ripped off. Major dealership not so much but like anything you need to be smart but most young guys don't think things through and wind up getting ripped off bad.

I figured that intel guy that gave that brief was full of crap... You don't want to buy a car near base because they know too much about you already and they have perfected getting the best deal possible for themselves rather than you. Go to a dealer that is no where near a military base to do your negotiations. If I were you, go to the chow hall for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, keep you personal bills to a minimum, the only thing I have is internet and a cell phone, and don't freakin live at the damn bars and strip clubs and blow your entire damn paycheck. Don't freakin get married right away! I don't know how old you are, but if your 18 just stay single your first enlistment. If you freakin get married to the first hot ass benefit sucking female who is looking to score a serviceman to get those benefits, your going to end up getting divorced and she's gonna drain you, and god forbid if you have kids. Now if you meet someone and it's genuine, by all means, but take it slow and make sure you are certain before you make that commitment. Trust me the way the camaro is selling and the good ratings and reviews its getting, you will have plenty of time to get one.

I'm 20 and have no plans on getting married anytime soon. I'll have a camaro before I get married. No doubt. That's what I thought. The people who have no money in the marines are the ones that constantly drink and go to the strip clubs huh?

Pretty much that's the number one thing I saw at Lejeune and here in Okinawa. Some are struggling with personal debt prior to joining. Others don't use the chow hall and eat out every day. Don't get me wrong, have fun, but have it wisely. You can set up a savings plan with your bank and have an allotment taken out of your check and put straight into savings. If you want even more money, get stationed overseas your first two years. We get paid extra since the cost of living here is higher, but I put all of it into savings and it is building up fast.

Deployments no, duty stations yes if there's room for you there.

Edit: It depends on where you work sort of as far as deployments. Your SNCOIC may come out and be like who want to go to this place and you raise your hand and he takes it up higher and they decide whether or not your the right person to go or whatever. Or, you get voluntold.

LOL you won't like it when you get voluntold. That reminds me, be shit hot at your MOS, even if you end up not liking it. Reason being is it will be easier for you to be able to do what you want to do. They always give the best marines the first pick to put it simply. If your garbage you will get fapped out to stupid details such as camp services where you go pick up all the trash on base, or armory duty where you have to be up at like 2am everyday cleaning weapons and things like that. If you show that your trying and your good at what you do and your good at pt, life will be easy, if not you'll be on of those marines that bitches 24 7about the marine corps. Well, all marines bitch LOL, but the ones I'm talking about bring it on themselves if you know what I mean.

well I hope I can even get that mos. the dlab server crashed at meps when I went to take it so I have to go back on Tuesday to take it. There were six spots open. Do I even have a realistic chance at getting that mos?

I can't really answer that. I'm sure I'll get corrected if I'm wrong, but the way I think it works from listening to my recruiters is each recruiting station has an MOS allocation if you will, similar to a dealership. Like your chevy dealer is allowed to order 6 ZL1's, you recruiter has six spots for that mos. I wouldn't really worry if I were you, you can always wait till a spot opens and don't let them tell you any different. Plus they can trade allocations to get you that MOS if they want to ut in the effort. Like another RSS has your MOS, they will trade your RSS for another popular MOS so you can get a spot. If you do good on your ASVAB you will have many options as far as jobs go, did you take that practice test at the recruiting station?
