Slow track times out of my SLP ZL585
I have 2011 SLP ZL585 Convertible 2ss Supercharged LS3 M6. It has SLPs: TVS2300, 160 thermo, Blackwing CAI, Engine covers, 1" lowering suspension, 29mm front/rear sway bars, ZL Redline rims, Loud mouth II car back, GM GFX pgk.
I ran it at my local track to verify what SLP claims for horsepower and 1/4 times. First, let me say up front, I know how to drive, it's not the driver. I run my 2009 Saturn Sky tubo Redline at the same 1/4 mile track with 12.89 104mph. My reaction times have ranged this year between .002 to .191 I have won street class bracket nights. I can drive, and don't count runs where I spin tires or miss a gear. But this Camaro can't beat my 4 cylinder. The Camaro's best time has been 13.289 101mph. it has been Dyno'd at two different shops with outcomes of 487 RWHP and 495.5 RWHP. That would be close to the SLP posted hp of 585. C&D, Motortrend, Automobile Mag, MotorWeek's post Hp too. But ever one of them have stated in print that this car is 11.5 to 12.7 sec 1/4 mile timed. So WHY won't my car perform??? Please post your thoughts and solutions! Because I can't get SLP to comment or look into this for me. I am running at Bristol, Tn. Thunder Valley dragstrip and yes I know it's evelation I a little high and humity, baronameter, track conditions all play apart. But I should see my usual number I always get from my turbo 4 auto, then run my camaro ten minutes later and get 13's. Hell, some members are getting low 13's without a supercharger. And yes, the supercharger is functioning correctly. Last edited by Smkymts; 12-10-2011 at 12:03 AM. Reason: typeo |

Your dyno numbers are not terribly off if you factor in drivetrain loss. You need to keep in mind..you already have the heaviest, slowest Camaro in the convertible.
All that being said, a stock Camaro with a good driver can run those times in the 13's. If you are putting down almost 500 rwhp, and running 13's...you either have 1000lbs of lead in your trunk, you are doing something wrong like leaving the traction control on, or you simply are not driving the car right. If the car can put down the power on a dyno, it can put it down at the track..so either it id driver error, traction, crappy track..or something. Not SLP's fault however if the car is otherwise mechanically fine. To get a mid 11 out the car you will need to drive it like you stole it without regards to your clutch and so forth. Also, the moves you put on your Sky are not gonna work on a car as different as a Camaro is. I remember back in my GTO days..I had an automatic GTO and would roll up on the street tires with an intake and headers, and run low 13's all day long. This was compared to M6 drivers, who would have drag tired and skinny's and cams running mid 13's because they could not drive their car. |

101 in the quarter....that mph seems way too low. I would think you should see at least another 10-15 mph with the power you are making. There has to be something going on. How hard have you pushed SLP to investigate? At the very least, I would find someone local to you and have them make sure it's not pulling timing or something of that nature. Good luck!

Have it checked by a good local tuner.Datalog the car just to see if something comes up.MPH seems pretty low.

I bet you are seeing a combination of factors.
Fuel 87, 91, 93, other? Full tank, total weight including driver? Traction Control mode? Shift points? What gear were you in at the finish? RPMs at launch? Stock Pzeros, or drag tires? Engine temp (cold, hot)? adjusted or density altitude, at least air temp? Your HP will get you to 110-115 at the finish and in the mid 12s on pzeros. My automatic 575 hp ran 12.70s shifting on its own, stock pzeros, slp wheels, and t/c full on. I only have made two passes. Data log will reveal any motor or driver issues. |

Not to sound completely stupid here, but have you put slicks on it and see if it pulls anymore? I have yet to take my camaro out to the track so I can't compare. For a fully loaded SLP car like yours, you should be hitting low 12's easy. Your looking at a 8.5lbs to 1hp ratio. Something isn't right here. You sure your knock sensor isn't detecting something it shouldn't and retarding the spark? (I said retarding lol)

Did you opt for the optional 1" wider wheels with Michelin Pilot Sports? I believe most test cars have those on.

Why would you buy a convertible for anything other than cruising. They are not race cars and will never have good times. The convertible adds 400 pounds to the stock weight. The body flex around corners is not helping. Nothing about the convertible is friendly to track time.

No matter what the car is intended for, however much amount of chassis flex, or the tire size, a 480-500 rwhp should mph more than 101 in the quarter.

13.28 is actually a great ET for 101 mph. The problem is, why is it only going 101. Your mph is a direct indication of horsepower, and its definitely not inline with nearly 500 rwhp. Something is going on between the dyno and track.

Edit: I've raced at Bristol too. It's a significantly slower track. I was running a half second slower there, at least.
I agree with the others, datalog the car. You're getting a lot of Knock Reduction or pulling timing. Padre |

You are at 495 rwhp and only trapped 101 mph, were you running at part throttle because of traction? I trapped 112 this past weekend with my clutch slipping in 3rd and 4th gear, and I only have 440 rwhp. Something is surely amiss with your setup or the posted times at the track may have been wrong. ET I would think could be off because of traction but you really should atleast trap 112-115 mph.
