So tomorrow at the LA show does media get to ask questions to GM or Ford? if so I wonder how each will respond when someone from the media asks about their competitors. IE, so why so little HP blah blah blah when Ford is much higher blah blah.

Too many people in these threads are doing exactly the same thing they are getting onto others about. We don't know that the new Shelby will have the traction issues on stock tires that it's predecessors did anymore than we know that the ZL1 will be able to put it's power down any better. I know, why don't we wait until both cars are available and put them on the same track on the same day and let the chips fall where they may!

ZL1: 4120lbs. 580hp = 493rwhp (approximately @ 15%) Official GM numbers out the car at 12.1 @ 119mph.
13' GT500: 3850lbs. 650hp = 553rwhp (approximately @ 15%) I estimate that this car will easily be around 123-124mph traps, if not higher than that. On paper, if you're in the ZL1 and you go from a roll against a 13' GT500, your getting walked, plain and simple. Not a car but a few cars when it's all said and done. No, here is my biggest issue with the ZL1. None Forged pistons. The GT500 can easily handle (the new 5.8 needs to be tested however i'm referring to a stock 5.4) 700rwhp+ without opening up the engine. And by easily I mean EVERYDAY, ALLDAY, no METH, pushing it hard and no tuners saying yeah, it should hold... i've done a bunch of these. Well, see how she does in 20k miles. Love the camaro but it's getting punked by ford. They have more originality, better interiors, more Cojones to make big power and say F-U to gm and not care about silly car shows and looking pretty. WHO CARES ABOUT LOOKING PRETTY?!! JESUS! Go Fast or go home... not look like you can go fast. Rant over.

The 'ring time is AMAZING, however I am very curious about how the ZL1 will handle a tighter course without such long high speed sections.

First I would like to say I am a Camaro guy 100%!!! The first car I owned was a 1997 Camaro, and this was when it was not cool to drive an American car. I was 18 when I got it and everyone wanted a 300Z, Mazda RX8, 3000GT, or Supra at the time. American muscle cars were almost dead and there was no Transformers or Retro look Mustang/Challenger to save them. As a little kid in the 80s my fav car was the IROC Camaro. Sure guys laughed at it having only 190 HP but I thought it was cool. My point is I have always loved the Camaro!
That being said Ford just turned up the heat big time on Chevy. I don't think we need to wait till 2013 to realize the 2013 Shelby will smoke the current ZL1 and Chevy knows that too. If anyone does more with less its Ford!! The 5.0 has less liters and HP, but walks the SS like a dog Look what they can do with NO SUPERCHARGER on the Boss To me that means either Chevy will take a beating for several years or they will make the 2013 ZL1 faster. Either way its not looking like a good idea to get a 2012 ZL1. As far as GMPP being an option that only adds even more cash to the 55K price of the ZL1. I know for a lot of people price was an issue with the ZL1? Has that changed now that the Shelby has soo much HP? As far as road racing .............. I just don't get it? I mean if I have the money to go road racing I would probably buy a Viper ACR, ZR1, or a model of car known for track racing. I mean besides Trans AM when did muscle car guys start to care about road/track racing? Most guys that are into that type of racing think American cars are a joke (just watch Top Gear). As Americans we were always more concerned with stoplights and drag strips Are we now trying to copy the Euro and Asian cars? If so maybe you should start giving the kid in his SUPER CIVIC with the fart can the thumps up As for me I tend to think you should stick with the girl you brought to the damce. Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, etc are 0 to 60 1/4 mile cars. So the only thing I want is to not have my doors blown off at the stoplight by the guy driving the Ford or Mopar! If I want to drive around a race track I will buy a Mazda Miata or a Lotus. Oh and your a better man than I am if you are not bothered by having your car boasted after only a half model year. I am not just talking about the Shelby either. Buying a 2012 ZL1 and having the 2013 have more power would eat me alive. I mean c'mon man, you buy the latest greatest anything and not even a year later yours is old news! I saw the price for the ZL1 here, but could not find it anywhere else, all I kept finding was Mustang this and Mustang that. Inside Line did not even have a story about the price of the Zl1 it was all Mustang. I think Chevy should hold back the ZL1 till it can match or better the Shelby thats just me. I work hard for my money and love Chevy, but I am already getting the S@#$ kicked out of me in my SS by the 5.0. That way you don't screw the guys breaking the bank to buy the 2012 and you don't get the smackdown laid to you by the Mustang. on a side note the ZL1 does 0 to 60 in 3.9 the Boss 302 does it in 4.0 (MotorTrend) I was hoping to see the ZL1 get 0 to 60 numbers like the SLP cars

Ford Quality has been rated higher than Chevrolet for a while. Chevy has been doing a great job at improving thiers as well. I could sit here and spout all about Ford but, in reality, I think both manufacturers are doing well. Lets hope they continue that way. Both companies need the competition to continue to push each other to get better. After 2002, you had to wonder if we would ever see Mustangs and Camaro's around anymore. What a great turn of events. Now, where is the Challenger? While we may drive different brands, in the end, we need to understand we all stand together for the hobby |

Well played Ford. They certainly caught me off guard. But this is the way the game is to be played now.... So we better get used to it. Right now GM has to show first... and Ford has decided to raise on the HP numbers. But lets not forget what the ZL1 is... it is more refined, more sophisticated than the GT500... But Ford has to distinguish the GT500 from a more complete ZL1... They place the value of all the ZL1 systems at another 70 BHP on the GT500... That says a lot about how much they think then need to put in the power bucket to offset what they are losing in the sophistication bucket... at 54K... The ZL1 is smack in the GT500 price comfort zone... I'll tell you this.... it sure is fun to watch...

BTW, kaneda, the reason the Caroll Shelby Mustangs don’t use the power as well as a stock GT500? They have more of it. It remains to be seen how many of the 2013’s 650 HP is actually going to get past the tires.
