From Bernie

Bankrupcy means that all the cars that were produced by GM will be delivered to my special holding station near Attica. Pink slipped GM executives will get first choice after picking up their severance checks and bonuses.
I will test drive each of them around the inside perimeter, kind of like a racetrack to those of you who have never visited the "Big House" as me and my buddies call it. Each one will be thoroughly tested.
When we've had our way with them, we'll auction them off on E-Bay for a princely sum, that only our cronies will be able to afford.
When you're old enough to gum your food instead of chewing it, my children's children will let you look at them, for a fee.
Your friend,
Bernie Madoff

ok...very scary idea...what will happen?

Now..in life i have learned to prepare for the worst and hope for the best

Well..i am trying to get a bearing on what might be the worst....

I was watching updates on GM on the news...and there was talk of congress forcing GM to file bankruptcy

WHAT COULD THAT MEAN

I ordered the car on feb 27...but i have the hurst still ordered on the car...

IF...GM were to declare bankruptcy...what would happen to my car and everyone else's

And to those who have the car already...would they lose thier warranties?

I DO NOT want to be waiting until september to find out that i gave my dealer a 1000 dollars for a car that didn't get built.

PLEASE...i need answers...also...would GM be able to operate under chapter 11...like Delta did. It would mean huge down sizing but they would still be around

This has been discussed a billion and one times on here.

Bankruptcy does not mean GM goes bye bye. It means that they restructure. The Obama administration cannot allow GM to liquidate. Google chapter 11 bankruptcy for more info.

In addition, Obama has said that the US government will honor all warranties issued by US automakers.

If, somehow, your car wasn't to get built, you should be able to get your deposit back. Even if you just feel like cancelling, you should be able to get it back, none-the-less if it is them who are cancelling it.

Even if bankruptcy were to start today, it would be several months if not years before the entire process is final. And even then not much is going to change with cars already in production. If you preordered a Camaro, your car will have long been produced and delivered before bankruptcy will cause you any problems. I do wonder though how everything will pan out in the end. What divisions will stay and who will go? And how the current employees will be dealt with. It will not be good on any level for the employees.

GM should be allowed to fail. That's capitalism. If you make crappy stuff and get beat out by the competition, too bad.

Oh sir, i beg to differ. GM wouldn't be losing so much money and making US taxpayers pay for there faults, if they WERE making good cars that people actually want to buy.

You're welcome to believe what you want to -- I just put the information out there:

Taxpayers aren't "paying" for anything...these loans will be paid back within 3-4 years. We'll never see the 'bill'. If it's principal you want to discuss...that's okay, and I'd probably agree with you -- but don't pretend we were robbed or something.

Secondly, their losses have very little to do with their vehicles.

Are you saying that cars like the Malibu, Lambda siblings, the GMT-900 trucks, the Camaro, the G8, the CTS, the G6, Impala, Aveo, Cruze, Kappa Twins, Corvette and the Volt aren't "good"? If so -- you certainly have very high standards .

Also, saying that "nobody wants to buy them" is a false statement disproven soley by the fact that they still hold the largest market share of sold vehicles in the US, and are the second-largest carmaker in the world (difference of a couple hundred thousand units between Toyota). That's a lot of nobodies.....

MALIBU'S ROCK!
I saw my first new Malibu today on my way to work, NICE! They have come a long way, and from what I could see looking down into it from my lifted FJ the interior looks pretty dang nice too!! Same with the new Impala's... IMO it was a slow turn around but I really think the quality in GM vehicles is a strong come back!! I've always felt their truck were top notch!! but the cars... not so much for a while... I am sad to hear GMC may go bye bye... Personally I prefer the design ques in the GMC trucks over the Chevy... BUT I do like the looks of the Tahoe front end over the Yukon front end. Except on the Denali... The Denali is nice in all models... like the Acadia... oh man that's GMC too!! The traverse is nice, but I liked the lights on the Acadia better... OH well... Anyway to the OP I think short term were all good, even long term with the mileage we are seeing in this 5th Gen! Keep up that kind of work and It could stay around longer than we think...

Also why do people keep thinking they just gave the money to GM...
