Well, Ford has heard the Nurburgring challenge (and the Al O letter).... they are leaving it to the Mustang fans to decide how it should go down. Ford is asking via Facebook...

Anywho, not to thread jack, HufferSS, that is a menacing car and an amazing build
The way I see it...Mustang fans simply aren't like Camaro enthusiasts...I hate to say it. Well, I obviously can't lot ALL Stang fans cumulatively and make that statement. But, the majority of Mustang enthusiasts just aren't like the Camaro enthusiasts. We have 35 people just shy of 54,000 members. Watch...we'll hit 54k by midnight. With that many people and with the enthusiasm and excitement they have for the Camaro, they talk. We are busy. We are especially busy right after a double announcement of simply astronomical proportions. Sh!t.... When did anyone ever think these two automakers would be offering for sale such BEASTS as these! It's an amazing time...and I'm happy to be here!

And....FWIW, I'd said it many times before.

I have nothing against the Mustang. the 93 Cobra is my fav of all time....LOVE that fox body....dayum! My old room mate had two of them...and I drove the sh!t out of both!

(reminder note to owner of fast cars....don't let the 20 year old go pick up your Cobra from the alarm company to bring it to you at work....it might not get there for a few hours! And it might not have that full tank of gas either! HA! ...good times, man...good times...)

Thanks for clearing up the question though. Anyone else know how these rear mounted turbos are more efficient? Non douche bag responses appreciated!

As far as efficiency compared to a N/A car, then probably so, especially cruising down the highway... I do know the STS systems make a ton of power, but there is a bit of lag compared to manifold or top mounted systems... simple physics determine this...

I'll try to find another member, he and I discussed this very situation, and he has an STS system on this Silverado... Gotta scratch my brain now and remember who it is...

Ford is in a no-win situation.....if they accept the challenge then let's face it, they probably lose and if they don't accept then they look like chickens.

The Chevy guy that threw that down better hope the shoe is never on the other foot but it was a stroke of genius on his part......if I were Ford, I would counter with a challenge....a trip around the Ring.....a Top Speed Challenge.....and a best of 5 1/4 mile show down.

Don't give the Ford guys my idea.....because they weren't bright enough to think of it so they should get their ass spanked at the Ring but that is what I would do. I'd serve up Chevrolet a dose of humble pie real quick and get them backpedaling instead.

Chevy and Ford did something similar in the late 90's, I don't think there was a real winner (just the fans)... You have to "like" the FB page to see the link, Ford is asking how "their fans" would respond... It is mostly fan nonsense after that though.. it is Facebook... I personally would pay $30-$60 dollars for a Pay-Per-View right now... If I had to wait until spring, I would probably pay more...

I wouldn't worry about the Terminators Ring time, I seen the mule run, however... there were things on the car that won't be production... Like drilled rotors. The Red mule that was running was benchmarking the GTR's time and.. from what we seen, it got pretty close.

I am not worried about it either way....because I don't really care.....but of course is should be production car vs production car. I doubt the ZL1 guys have much fear if they threw out a challenge like that which could be a giant shit flavored pie really quickly if they lost.

Chevy and Ford will never run a "production" car around the ring when it comes to the ZL1 or the GT500. They will always have a cage in them. Makes quite a bit of difference. I'm with you on the heads up though. Run them 0-60, 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 1 mile, 150-0, 100-0, 70-0, slalom, figure 8, lane change, then do a lap around some local tracks here. A car comparo should not be done on a 13 mile track.

Neither the GT500 or the ZL1 was a production car during Nurburgring tuning. In all honesty, GM has nothing to lose and everything to gain. The media has already tilted heavily towards the GT500 and from a marketing stand point, that is what was really lost here. Ford has been saving their bullets until GM got close enough to hit. Chevy has been firing blindly at an unknown target since February.. firing slowly and methodically but firing way too many shots before they knew what to shoot at. Now, the next coming months, Ford will release (in a similar fashion Chevy did) info to keep interest in the product.

What if Ford immediately challenged Chevrolet to a race in February, with a '12 GT500 and the ZL1 still in testing... Do you think GM would have accepted? The number crunchers from Chevy have no doubt come to the conclusion that 0-60 and the 1/4 mile is out of the question. Lets race at Nurburgring, not Willow, not Laguna, not VIR or Barber... Lets race at a track, a half a world away in the middle of winter. If they keep pressing the issue, they could very well get a race from Ford at the Ring, in the spring. Nurburgring is the best place to do so, there will be absolutely no 3rd party interference unless the magazines pay their own way. The magazines will put these two head to head for free, and.. probably make a lot of money from it.

After the "challenge" was put out, I been on the lookout for follow ups. Only two sources covered the story, the original source (Detroit News) and the secondary (Jalopnik). For such a huge challenge and the lack of interest via the media, I am beginning to think that the challenge was more of a personal challenge from said marketer... Possibly in response to having his interview time bombarded with GT500 remarks. Not sure if GM had previously approved a "super challenge" prior to his comments and this is where media along with unsanctioned personal remarks can get you in trouble.

Just a thought....

Whats funny is that the Camaro is the most popular car on all of Facebook with over 2-million likes. They just came out with a new Camaro shirt that says 2 million strong I just ordered it.
