isn't the airbox piped to bring air in from the the front of the car?

sounds like the engine was sucking in the water, soaking the air filter, and only allowing enough air to maintain idle. Let it dry out, and be thankful it didn't hydrolock.

thats not the answer my car is running when i go to the automatic car wash and it sprays water directly at front of car and ive never had issues with the way it runs and also ive washed under the hood quite a few times at car wash as i show my car and like to have hood open so from time to time i wash under hood ! so i think its something else ! sorry i cant help out on diagnoses but hope you figure it out soon !

How about you do us all a favor and take it to the dealer so we don't have to speculate. Good luck.

Why wash the engine compartment? You're just asking for trouble. There are so many electrical connections in there that just a little moisture will screw everything up...

Edit....just noticed you said no codes....so skip the first....go to Second.

First....Is throwing a check engine light? If so pull the code and then go directly to that system and look for issues. Check connections and spray with WD-40 and then reconnect connectors.

Second......If no check engine light....Does it have a cold air kit?

If so take the MAF out and make sure it is clean and dry....both the MAF and the connector.

After that spray anything electrical with WD-40....it's a water dispersant amount many other things.....

Restart it and see what happens.......Ignore 98% of the nonsense that has been posted in this thread so far.....some bad or simply wrong advice.

yeah no codes it does have a CAI where the filter is right under the drivers front bumper. It was damp but not soaked i first checked that yesterday. MAF was dry etc. He did not spray water under the hood at all.I checked the car again earlier it fired right up and I took a 30 min drive to make sure. very strange scenario but the car would idle yesterday but under load bog and shut down.its working OK now but i hate when things like this pop up and you can not scan to diagnose what might be wrong.

Did your friend washed the car inside as well?
Maybe using ****pit spray over ignition lock?

Jesus. Cocpit spray. Without a "k"?

its gonna be one of those issues thats hard to duplicate until it keeps happening and we can troubleshoot.

I thought you said it was bone stock. Now we find out it has a Borla.

Does the car perhaps have a CAI too? Some of these are more vulnerable to water ingestion than the stock air box, which is well baffled.

Nothing wrong with that. What is your point?

Have you ever heard of drive thru car washes?
Hint: lots of gas stations have them.

Or do you simply not drive in the rain?

Well it quit several times. Then it would start and run but it had an extremely rough idle and wouldn't run over 45mph. The dealer did find a fault. They fixed it in like an hour and I was on my way.
