go buy yourself some 190+mph speed rated tires, tune out the limiter, and go for it

155 sounds pretty optimistic based on the power-to-rate ratio of the V6. If true, that's pretty impressive for a V6 and will be plenty for me. I've never been above 131 (once in my 95 mustang gt and once in my 4 cyl. spec-v). I'm not promoting speeding either, I just do it once with each car to see what it will do. Its nice to know what they "could" do if they had to. I bet the V8 will be way to fast and very dangerous, probably 175ish or so...

Insurance might be a bit cheaper too with the 115 models.

I think it'll do it. What was an LT1 camaro capeable of? I know the fbod's were lighter and more aerodynamic, but it should only be a couple MPH less.

When I called for my quote they asked if it was an LS, LT or SS. They didn't ask about wheel size or the RS package. The limit is for the speed rating on the tires that come with it so the RS package gets you the 155 limit, but the insurance company (state farm) doesn't care what tires you get. I live in Maryland and have yet to find anywhere I would want to go even 115 because of traffic and road conditions. when I lived in Denver it was a different story. Straight wide highways with no trees along the side of the road to hide cops or animals waiting to jump onto the road. I may take mine to Wyoming or Montana if they still don't have speed limits on parts of the highway.

What if I bought a 1LT that has the polished 19's on them when I bought it? You think mine is still 115 or 155?

Why are you worried about the governor guys? The only time you should worry about breaking the sound barrier is on the bonneville salt flats. If your going faster then 100 on the highway you'll most likely kill yourself.

If you keep it stock you won't break much more then 100mph in the quarter mile. And if you modify it the first thing you should do is "retune" the computer which eliminates the speed governor.

This thread gave me a lot of laughs. Thanks guys.

The reason why anyone should want higher speed rated tires is the car will be more stable and capable of emergency evasive manuvers at real highway speeds (75~85 MPH) with a 130+ MPH rated "Perfomance" tire than it will with a 118 MPH rated "Touring" tires.

It's not that I want to go as fast as the "tire speed rating", it's that I want to be at a lower percentage of the tires maximum speed capacity when at normal highway speeds ...

"Y" rated performance tire (186 MPH) is at 46% of it's speed rating @ 85 MPH
vs.
"W" rated performance tire (168 MPH) is at 51% of it's speed rating @ 85 MPH
vs.
"V" rated performance tire (149 MPH) is at 57% of it's speed rating @ 85 MPH
vs.
"H" rated performance tire (130 MPH) is at 65% of it's speed rating @ 85 MPH
vs.
"T" rated touring tire (118 MPH) is at 72% of it's speed rating at 85 MPH

"H" is the minimum speed rating I try to find for any tire purchase, however some tire sizes are hard to find even with this rating.

The polished 19" wheels come with Ultra High Perfomance All Season tires (same as 2LT) so YES you should get the 155 MPH speed govenor.
